🚁 A Unique Learning Experience at Helena High School! 🩺
Julia Hill’s classes at Helena High School are in for an exciting day of career exploration today!

Students had the opportunity to see the RAMSS LifeFlight helicopter land on the practice field behind campus and learn more about the important role emergency medical aviation plays in healthcare.

Adding to this incredible experience, Vicki Lavender, President of the Alabama Board of Nursing, spoke with students and shared valuable insight into the nursing profession and healthcare careers.

From emergency medical services to nursing leadership, this is an amazing opportunity for students to connect classroom learning with real-world careers!

🩺 Phlebotomists in Training at CTEC! 🩸

Today, students in Dr. Doss’ PLTW Principles of Biomedical Science class at CTEC gained hands-on experience practicing blood draws using simulation arms, a variety of needles, and vacuum tubes.
Many students successfully completed their very first attempt with impressive accuracy! Through these real-world simulations, students are developing valuable technical skills and gaining insight into careers in the healthcare field.

Learning by doing and preparing for the future, one skill at a time! 🩺🔬

Workforce Wednesday at Helena Middle School!

Mr. Lee’s STEM 2 students put their critical thinking and problem-solving skills to work this week!

Students tackled critical-thinking questions focused on distinguishing between fact and opinion while also exploring the steps of the problem-solving process.

A great hands-on way to strengthen the skills students will use both in the classroom and in the workplace! 💡🔧 🧠

WORKFORCE WEDNESDAY | Critical Thinking Challenge!

Today, Mrs. Ingram & Coach Brewer’s BSA classes at Oak Mountain High School put their critical thinking skills to the test with the Marshmallow Tower Challenge!

Students worked in teams of 4–5 and were given:
20 uncooked spaghetti noodles
1 large marshmallow
1 yard of masking tape
18 minutes

Their mission? Plan, build, test, improve, and create the tallest FREE-STANDING structure possible!

The challenge required students to think critically, adapt their plans, and work together under a time limit. The team with the tallest standing structure earned a prize!

But the learning didn’t stop with critical thinking. This activity also reinforced several Workforce Wednesday skills we’ve been developing throughout the 9 weeks:

Communication
Collaboration
Leadership
Accountability
Organization
We love giving our students opportunities to learn by doing and see how the skills they develop in the classroom connect to the real world and the workplace!

Mrs. Merrell’s classes at SCHS put a creative spin on this week’s Workforce Wednesday! Students chose a Workforce Wednesday word and paired it with a fictional character who they felt best demonstrated that skill. They then defined the word and explained how their chosen character portrayed that important workplace quality.

What a fun way to connect career-ready skills with characters students know and love! ❤️🐾 📚 💡
