Sergeant Brand spoke with the 10th grade health classes at Calera High School today about the dangers of drugs and ni****ne products. It was an honest, meaningful, and necessary conversation with the students.

Officer Allen and Sgt. Brand spent the day speaking with driver’s education students at Calera High School. They emphasized the importance of respecting the power of an automobile and avoiding distractions to promote safe and responsible driving.

Attention Parents: New products continue to enter the market designed to appeal to young people while making substance use easier to conceal. Please remain vigilant about unfamiliar products your teens may be using or bringing into your home—especially items designed to resemble legitimate medical devices, such as inhalers.

These companies profit from marketing products in ways that appeal to adolescents and make them difficult for parents to recognize. It’s important to ask: Why would an adult need to conceal the use of these products? Take the time to learn what your teen is using and have open, honest conversations about the risks.

Officer Allen and Sgt Brand started this week off teaching Teen Mental Health First Aid to the Peer Helpers class at Calera High school. Teen Mental Health First Aid is taught in six sessions and ends with the students obtaining a certificate.

“This is just the beginning. Our goal is to certify as many students as we can this year and build from there until everyone at Calera High School is certified in Teen Mental Health First Aid.” ~ Sgt. Brand

Sgt Brand had some help tonight with the CASE table at Calera Middle School’s open house. We spoke to parents about the CASE program as well as our Cadet program. It was a great night with a large turnout.

Officer Allen and Sgt. Brand participated in “Adulting 101” at Calera High School with the senior class!

This engaging event is set up by the Shelby County career coach, Hope Finley. “This is designed to prepare our seniors for life after high school in order to set them up for success,” said Sgt. Brand.

Officer Allen added, “We want to share our wisdom in hopes that they will learn something that they can take with them once they graduate and turn 18.”

Alongside three other presenters, Officer Allen and Sgt. Brand spent the morning sharing valuable insights and advice to help our students navigate the transition into adulthood. We’re proud to support our community’s future leaders!
