Calera JH GT visited the Chemistry Department at Southeastern in October. Dr. Paiva and Dr. Smith told us about some of the successful SE Chemistry graduates and about different careers that use chemistry. We also celebrated National Chemistry Week and learned about the chemistry of spices. A big thank you to Dr. Smith and Dr. Paiva for a great visit!

Calera JH GT attended a hands-on workshop designed especially for us by Dr. Ming Su at Southeastern. The students learned about programming and coding using Scratch. They created a balloon pop game, learned about 3D printing, coding for a small drone, and face-swapping technology. Dr. Su also gifted the kids 3D printed whistles and usb drives with the face-swap program and instructions.

We had a great trip to Muskogee, OK! Started at the War Memorial Museum and Park to see the USS Batfish. Later to Honor Heights Park for picnic lunch and the Five Civilized Tribes Museum. http://www.fivetribes.org/

Calera JH GT will be taking a field trip tomorrow after school to the Semple Family Art Museum at Southeastern tomorrow after school. We will leave approximately 3:30 pm and return approximately 5:15pm. Students must have a permission slip to attend. November GT meeting had a visit from the Bryan County District 2 Commissioner elect, Mr. Justin Boone. He reminded the students how important voting is and explained the role of county commissioner and other roles he has played in the community (i.e. Fair Commission and Calera School Board).

Calera JH GT competed in the Knowledge Master Open today. They answered 105 questions in 90 mins to earn an unchallenged score of 67% correct! We have challenged 13 questions, and are certain to be awarded some additional points soon. Stay tuned for updated score and standings.
