🎹 Meet the Teacher
Katy Ann Horton is a Durant native who began playing piano at age six. As a student, she was an Oklahoma Federation state champion and a 12-Year Consecutive Superior Award recipient. She also earned the Paderewski Gold Medal from the National Guild of Piano Teachers and placed first multiple times at piano festivals hosted by Southeastern Oklahoma State University and Denison Performing Arts.
Mrs. Katy teaches students of all ages and abilities in a calm, loving in-home studio environment. Her individualized methods combine music reading, theory, technique, creativity, and music students genuinely enjoy—from classical and sacred music to Disney, film scores, pop, and rock. Students also have opportunities to share their progress and build confidence through studio recitals.
With her background in the humanities, Mrs. Katy believes music is another way we tell the human story—and that every student has a story to tell in their own way. She works with each student as an individual, adapting lessons to their strengths, needs, interests, and learning style. Her goal isn’t to turn out identical copies of “little Mozarts,” but to help each student discover the musician they are capable of becoming.
Her motto is, “We all have our strengths.” She strives to make every lesson a safe, encouraging place to learn, create, and grow—with a piece of candy waiting at the end! 🍬
