Asian Arts Center/Tobukan The Asian Arts Center/Tobukan houses four traditions of classical martial arts: Goju-ryu karate, Yamanni-ryu kobudo, T'ai Chi Ch'uan, and Iaido.

Notice that when Mr. Ohta mentioned that "No karate masters we know went to China to learn karate", Miyagi didn't jump up and say, "Ooh! Ooh! My master Kanryo Higaonna went to China and brought back Goju-ryu". He only pointed out that "Matsumura went to China and practiced karate there." I wish to thank sensei Luis Morales from the bottom of my heart for opening the doors of his dojo to us and allowing us to continue training and studying after I had to close the doors of the Asian Arts Center. This marks the one-year anniversary of his hospitality. Arigato, sensei!

BUSAGANASHI UNMASKED!
The deity revered in Goju-ryu as Busaganashi is Tian Du Yuan Shuai; his real name is Li Hai Qing (AD 716-755) from Tianzhuang village of Qingyuan county (Putian prefecture, Fujian province). He was a famous physician and musician (credited with being the first to create sheet music) at the court of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang dynasty. He was the patron saint of the performing arts in Fujian since the Song dynasty (960 - 1279). He was revered as the titulary god of villages in the region of Quanzhou; he is said to have appeared to Fang Qiniang in a dream and advised her to create her fighting style of White Crane quanfa. He was subsequently worshiped by her and disciples of the White Crane style and came to Miyagi via Higaonna.

I would like to express my gratitude to sensei Luis Morales for opening his dojo to us and providing us with the opportunity to continue training. Now the Okinawa Shodokan Goju-ryu lineage of Seko Higa is alive again in the U,S. and Yamanni-ryu kobujutsu thrives once more in New Jersey!
