Thinking about writing a grant? Ohio State University Extension Community Development and the Ohio Mid-Eastern Governments Association will host a one-day grant course on Friday, October 2 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Belmont County Extension Office at 45422 Roscoe Rd., Suite A (Belmont County Fairgrounds) in St. Clairsville.

The course covers what to do before you write a grant; organizational mission and structure; components of a grant proposal; finding and connecting with funders; and a complimentary proposal review.

The program will be led by Cathryn Stanley, Community Development Program Assistant, OSU Extension Noble County, and Gwynn Stewart, MS, OhioCED, Community Development Manager, Ohio Mid-Eastern Governments Association and former Assistant Professor at Ohio State.

RSVP to 740-305-3187 or via email at [email protected] by September 25. Class size is limited. Lunch will be provided courtesy of Belmont County OSU Extension.

The course fee is $150. However, thanks to a program sponsor, organizations in Belmont County may attend at no cost. Others in Ohio’s Appalachian Counties may also receive a full scholarship, ask when you RSVP.

🇺🇸 Looking for a quick, easy, and patriotic dessert to celebrate America's 250th birthday? We've got you covered!

Yesterday, 40 youth participating in the Noble County 4-H SPIN Club at the Noble Learning Center celebrated America 250 by learning about our nation's 250th birthday. 🇺🇸

The morning was filled with hands-on fun as youth created patriotic crafts and made a delicious America 250 Celebration Trifle—a festive treat layered with a cake, strawberries, blueberries, whipped topping and strawberry syrup. It's as tasty as it is patriotic! 🍓🫐🍰

What a great way to celebrate our country's history while making memories together. Happy America 250! ❤️🤍💙

🇺🇸 Happy Independence Day! 🇺🇸

Our office will be closed Friday, July 3, in observance of the Fourth of July holiday.

If you're looking for something fun to do, join us at the Noble County Fairgrounds for the 4-H Chicken BBQ and the Noble County Cruzers Car Show! It's a great way to celebrate the holiday, enjoy delicious food, admire some amazing vehicles, and support our local community.

- Strong communication and collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in Animal Science or equivalent experience
- 4–6 years of experience in large animal production, especially in a research environment

🌡️ ☀️ Intense summer heat is setting in this week. Whether your work keeps you outdoors or you’re simply out and about handling daily life, it’s important to protect yourself and stay safe in the high temperatures.

1. Drink lots of water to stay hydrated.
2. Wear lightweight clothing.
3. Take regular breaks in the shade.
4. Apply sunscreen every 2 hours.

It is also a good idea to check on friends, family and neighbors who are vulnerable to heat-related illness including newborns, children, elderly, and those with chronic conditions.

🌱 Seed Library Update & New Learning Challenge! 🌱

Our upcoming Seed Library class is going to look a little different this time! Instead of our usual in-person session, we’re inviting participants to take part in a self-guided learning challenge.

🌿 Here’s how it works:
We’re asking you to plan your own “field trip” to a place where you can learn something new about seeds, gardening, plants, food preservation or the natural world. This could be:

A trip to the garden section of the local library
A local garden or park
A greenhouse or nursery
A farm or farmers market
Even your own backyard with a fresh perspective!

🌼 Your mission:
Explore, observe, and discover something meaningful that you can share with the group. Take notes, photos, or just keep track of your ideas—whatever helps you capture what you’ve learned.

🌻 Next session:
When we meet again, we’ll come together to share our experiences and new knowledge. This is a great opportunity to learn from each other and bring fresh ideas back to our Seed Library community!
