Good morning Caldwell and West Essex friends. We have 3 short days left to sign up for Little League, don’t be late!

With over 610 kids signed up so far, it’s looking like it will be another great season for the kids. Whether your child is brand new to the sport or a seasoned travel player, we would love to have you. Little League is for everyone!

For the beginners, we offer a great experience to be introduced to the game most of us played growing up. We have one goal in mind in everything that we do…we want the kids to have FUN playing with their buddies and meeting new friends.

If your son or daughter is a local Travel or Club player, Little League is a great place to get more reps and play with their friends. Last year was such a great experience for our travel players as most played in the post season All-Star tournaments representing our community. We plan on defending some titles and putting teams out in the district tournament again this year in baseball for 8U, 9U, 10U, 11U and 12U. Softball would be 10U.

But besides playing in the All-Star tournaments, travel players can have fun throughout the season playing different positions than they normally do, try pitching (where they might not have the opportunity in travel), and helping their friends improve their skills. While it was great to see success in the post season tournaments, watching them become leaders was more fulfilling.

We also offer some bonus activities like a night out at the Somerset Patriots game, a Home Run Derby, opportunities for extra training along with having THE coolest uniforms in the area. Here’s a sneak peek of some of my favorites for this year.

Lastly, we are working with our friends at the Soccer and Lacrosse clubs and trying to minimize scheduling overlap too so that shouldn't be as big of an issue this year.

Congrats to the Chiefs but more importantly, congratulations to three friends of the CWELL program for winning box pool cash last night.

Kristen & Bryan Azzato picked up $250 for their 1st Quarter win

Jared & Meghan Thomson won halftime and the 3rd quarter for $750 and the big winners were…

Brian & Bern Tortorella who won the final and $1500 thanks to another Patrick Mahomes comeback.

Hello CWELL Families! We have some important updates below!

With almost 400 players signed up for this season, we're on our way to another great season!

Immediate Action Items (Do it now!)

Registration is open! Last year we had many families that attempted to register after the deadline and we didn't have a spot for them. Please be sure you're registered, and then be sure your friends are registered!

Key Dates (Put it on the Calendar)

- TODAY - Registration is open NOW through February 28. Register now! Last year some families missed the deadline and weren't placed on teams. Register now to guarantee your spot!

- February 24 (Saturday) - West Caldwell Equipment Swap at EVS. Did your kid grow again? Drop off some old gear and pick up some new gear! See the flyer below. NOTE: CWELL will be donating approximately 100 helmets to the swap...if your child needs their own helmet, please strongly consider picking one up here or buying one! See flyer attached.

- February 28 (Wednesday) - REGISTRATION DEADLINE

- March 2 (Saturday) and March 3 (Sunday) - Evaluations (for Coach Pitch, Minors and Majors Divisions ONLY)

Evaluations help us balance talent across all teams. We need all players to participate. Evaluations will ensure balanced teams and determine All-Star selections.

1. Coach Pitch Baseball- Sunday (3/3) between 9am - 1pm, but specific times to be announced, at Hustle Baseball in Fairfield.
2. Coach Pitch Softball - Sunday (3/3) between 2:30-4:30, specific times to be announced, at Fred Hill in Verona.
3. Minors Baseball - Sunday (3/3) between 9am - 1pm, but specific times to be announced, at Hustle Baseball in Fairfield.
4. Majors Baseball - Saturday (3/2) between 5:30pm - 7:30pm, specific times to be announced, at Fred Hill in Verona.
5. Minors/Majors Softball - Sunday (3/9) - 8:30am - 10:30am, specific times to be announced, at Fred Hill in Verona.

- Week of March 11 - Practices Begin

- April 13 (Saturday) Opening Day - Planned at for James Caldwell High School again this year...a great day to kick off the program with our community.

- May 27 (Monday) West Essex Memorial Day Parade

- June 8 (Saturday) - CWELL Night at the Somerset Patriots...and it's another Firework night and a very special weekend for the Somerset Patriots!

- July 1 - All-Star Tournaments start- If your child hopes to play in the postseason All-Star tournaments, please consider your summer vacation schedule.

Update on Practice/Games Schedule

Pre-K Tee-Ball Division will be Tuesday evening (5pm or 6pm) and Saturday mornings (9am or 10am), same as last year. We anticipate final schedules for Kindergarten Tee-Ball will be announced shortly. All other divisions are yet to be finalized, see below for our scheduling process:

Locking up the schedule for the spring is a priority for our families. And for us too! Here's how it works:
1. Determine about how many teams we have in each division;
2. Confirm field access with Recreation Departments; and then
3. Set the schedule.

As registrations fill out, we will lock in more and more divisions.

What is the Caldwell-West Essex Little League all about?

In a word...FUN! CWELL is a place where children and their families can learn about baseball and softball, play games with their friends, and attend special events with families across our community!

The season starts with practices in early spring leading to our big Opening Day Event, which included face painting, balloon animals and raffles last year. After opening day, each team will play several games throughout the season culminating in playoffs and a championship weekend.

Throughout the year, we'll also have our "Night at the Ballpark" where players and their families can experience a great night with the Somerset Patriots, a home run derby for our older players, team and player pictures, and end of year celebrations for each division.

Registration

All registration is done online at our CWELL website: https://www.cwelittleleague.org/Default.aspx?tabid=2694247. Returning families can use the same credentials as last year. New players and parents are welcome and can also register on our website. This year we are offering the following divisions:

-Tee Ball - Pre-K and K- The Kindergarten kids will have their own division. We will start out Tee-Ball then transition into Coach Pitch.
-Coach Pitch (Baseball and Softball) - 1st and 2nd grade
-Minors (Player-Pitch Baseball and Softball) - 3rd and 4th grade
-Majors (Player-Pitch Baseball & Softball) - 5th and 6th Grade
-Senior Baseball- 7th & 8th Grade
All players above Tee Ball level will attend our Player Evaluation Day in early March to assess skill levels in order to make the teams fair. These evaluations will also help the league and coaches determine the players selected for our CWELL All-Star Teams, which will play in year-end tournaments.

We will be entering All-Star teams in the Baseball Division of 8U, 10U, 11U and 12U age groups. If we have enough kids for 9U we may enter a team there too. The 12U All-Star team will compete with a chance to move on to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA! Last year we entered a 10U Softball team, and this year we hope to enter another Softball team as well.

Registration Fees will be $125 for Tee Ball and $150 for all other divisions. If you are in need of financial assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out as we want to ensure all kids have an opportunity to participate.

Coaches Needed!!!

Our volunteer coaches are the key to our program's success, and we ALWAYS need more help. As you register your child, you will have the chance to volunteer as a Coach, Assistant Coach or Team Parent. You can also register as a coach directly here.

Come see the amazing CWE Little League 10u All-Stars compete in the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP tomorrow (7/25) at Livingston's Meadowbrook Baseball Complex at 5:30 PM against Morristown!

This sensational squad dominated in the District AND Section tournaments, and come to the state final four undefeated. If you can't make it Tuesday, they'll be back at it Wednesday, 7/26...same time, same place. See you there!

Congratulations to the 11U boys with a huge win over Hoboken last night to get to the Championship game. Ben Anderson with the walk off hit in the 8th inning to propel the boys to the victory! No rest for the weary, another game tonight and if we win tonight, then tomorrow.
