Waterway Art Association Waterway Art Association is a group of men and women who come together to create, share ideas, and celebrate the arts and community!

All photos posted are copyright protected © all rights reserved The Waterway Art Association (WAA), established in 1991, has a membership consisting of artists residing in southern Brunswick County, NC and northeastern Horry County, SC. Our mission is to "encourage artistic awareness and growth both on an individual as well as community level." We are dedicated to accomplishing this goal through exhibits, shows, lectures, painting demonstrations, art instruction, classes, professional workshops, paint-in and outdoor sketching sessions, and trips to museums. Our members' artistic interests and talents encompass watercolor, oil, acrylic, pastel, charcoal, and more. All skill levels are welcome as our membership includes beginners to professional artists. We are supported, in part, by the Brunswick Arts Council's Grassroots Program of the North Carolina Arts Council as well as by our members and private donations. Our informal paint-in sessions are held on Wednesdays, each month (excluding the last two weeks of December) from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. Artists bring their current projects and share the experience of painting together.

The Friends of the Southwest Brunswick Branch Library provided Waterway Art Association (WAA) with a space at their Open House, Thursday, September 17, 2026. A team of WAA volunteers promoted WAA membership, advertised upcoming workshops, and directed patrons to WAA’s year-round art exhibit and sale at the library. The team asked visitors to vote for their favorite painting in the gallery (People’s Choice) in exchange for a chance to win one of three original paintings donated by our members: Nancy Miller, Robert Keating, and Cynthia Blake.

There were around 50 visitors and votes to award three People’s Choice ribbons. First place award went to Karen Leight for “Sunset Morning”, followed by second and third place respectively for Jane Wolfgang’s “Joyful Morning” and “Dark Solace”. Congratulations to the People’s Choice winners and all the fine artists who display their art in the library’s year-round exhibit.

When at the library please take a few minutes or more to see WAA members’ artwork where the paintings are for viewing and for sale (a portion of the proceeds of each sale benefits the Friends of the Library).
