HAD TO SHARE... Great example of a middle school client of mine’s daily planner. The student uses this helpful system to write down homework, quizzes, and long term projects and keep track of personal appointments too. Then a simple check mark is used to denote that the item has been accomplished. Staying organized is integral keeping track of what is due and ensuring nothing falls through the cracks.

Schedules, schedules, schedules! Planning and abiding by a schedule is perhaps THE MOST important way to help an overwhelmed student find success. I live and breath by me daily planner in my iPhone as it helps me tackle my everyday chores, my appointments, and my long term goals. I never feel overwhelmed, because I can see on my schedule when I plan to accomplish everything and approximately how long it will take. How strong of a scheduler are you?

Not that we should be surprised, but the importance of organizational skills sometimes gets overlooked when we are bombarded with the workload of school. Staying organized is the foundation for a successful student. How would a student possibly be able to learn if they feel scattered and do not even know what is due? I integrate this skill into each and every one of my tutoring students.
