For those who are new to 4-H Forestry Field Days, participants rotate through a series of educational stations in small groups. At each station, youth learn a forestry-related skill from professionals and then demonstrate their knowledge in a hands-on contest. Topics include compass and pacing, tree identification, tree measurement, all skills important to forestry professionals and outdoor enthusiasts alike. Youth learn directly from experts with the Kentucky Division of Forestry and the University of Kentucky Department of Forestry and Natural Resources. These events are open to Junior and Senior 4-H members and provide an excellent opportunity to explore careers and interests in forestry, natural resources, wildlife, and outdoor education.

After more than 12 hours at the State Fair, over 1000 hams and speeches, I would call today a huge success!

Ham Club Members and Parents, I will be picking up Hams on August 12th. We will have hams set up and ready to clean August 17th and 18th - 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM. Please contact me with the time you plan to come to the Extension office on those days, so we can have your ham ready for you. Also, please, have your speeches completed so we can practice them. State Fair Speech day is August 20. When they give us our time slot I will send out more information. If those cleaning dates don’t work for you please let me know and we will try to work something out.

Eligibility: Both Junior and Senior 4-H members are eligible to compete and will be recognized within their respective age divisions.

Registration Fee: The cost is $5 per youth, with payment due by event date.
