🎹 Piano Lessons Are About More Than Music 🎶

When a child sits down at the piano, they aren’t only learning notes and songs.

They’re using math, patterns, memory, coordination, problem-solving, and creative thinking — often all at the same time!

➗ Math is built into music.
Students count beats, recognize patterns, divide measures, and work with note values that relate naturally to fractions — whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, and more.

🔬 Music uses skills important in math and science.
Piano students work with sequencing, timing, patterns, spatial relationships, observation, and problem-solving.

🧠 The brain gets a workout.
Playing piano asks a student to read music, listen, remember, coordinate both hands, keep a steady beat, and make adjustments while playing.

🎹 The Teacher I Needed at 8 Years Old

When I was 8, I wanted piano lessons so badly that I begged my parents to let me take them.

I could hardly wait to begin.

Then I met my first piano teacher.

After a few weeks, Instead of feeling excited, i felt discouraged. The anger, the frustration I saw every week affected me negatively. What I thought would be wonderful, became a very unhappy experience.

But something important came from it.

Even as a little girl, I decided that if I ever became a piano teacher, my students would have a different experience.

I wanted children to feel welcome.

I wanted them to know it was okay to make mistakes.

I wanted them to laugh, explore, ask questions, and discover that learning music could be fun.

And years later, that little 8-year-old’s decision still influences the way I teach today.

At Music with Gigi, I want students to learn well, work hard, and grow as musicians — while also knowing that their lesson is a safe and encouraging place to learn.

Later, I had some wonderful piano teachers who inspired me to be the teacher I am today. 😊

Sometimes the experiences we wish had been different help shape the kind of person we decide to become. ❤️🎶

This week is PERFORMANCE WEEK! Students who have been taking summer lessons will be performing their summer pieces for their family! I can't wait for the sparkly fun and icecream and chocolate chip cookies afterward!!!🍦🍪🎶🎵🎹

PIANO LESSONS- Music with Gigi

Our Summer Session is in full swing and starts with age 4.

Last week our theme was “Under the Sea”. Students played fish and dolphin music and played starfish and crab games learning music symbols. Our take home was gold fish to eat and making a fuzzy crab craft!

Looking forward to our Luau theme this coming week! 🏄🌊🎶🎹🎼

🎹 Did you know? A piano has more than 200 strings. Most notes in the middle and upper range use three strings per key, which are struck simultaneously by a hammer to create the piano’s rich, full sound.

1st week of our Summer Piano Session is in the books!

𝕊𝕦𝕞𝕞𝕖𝕣 ℙ𝕚𝕒𝕟𝕠 𝕊𝕡𝕝𝕒𝕤𝕙!

This week was Beach Week. Students completed theory and technique exercises with beach balls, used rhythm instruments with popular beach songs, learned to play their first beach song on the piano, and used improvisation to create wave sounds on the piano.

They brought home their favorite beach drink holder and a beach craft to make this week!
