CBO presents West Plains 11th Annual production of The Nutcracker! Auditions this Saturday, August 29th!

When A Swan Princess ended, the comments that echoed in cars as students drove home was "I can't wait for The Nutcracker to start"!

Well, the wait is finally over and Auditions for our 11th annual production of The Nutcracker are this Saturday, August 31st, for students ages 5+. Check your emails for details.

We are also excited to announce that we have 3 guest judges this year! Tia Stock, Sheryl Whipple, and Ellie Greenwald! All the have amazing dance history and bios, and we are so thrilled to have them as judges!

Today we honor the memory of our beloved founder, first Director, and teacher, Malai Jackman Copling.

One of the greatest testaments to the foundation Malai built is that the studio and dance family she spent five years creating have continued to grow and thrive through another five years without her. Her vision, values, and love for her students continue to shape Children's Ballet of the Ozarks every single day.

After moving to the Ozarks in Missouri from Salt Lake City, Utah, Malai wanted her 12 children to experience the same high-quality, pre-professional, family-oriented dance training that she had grown up with. When she couldn't find what she was looking for, she created it herself.

Family was always Malai's highest priority. She chose to set aside what could have been a professional dance career to raise her family, but she never set aside her love of ballet. Instead, she poured that passion into teaching hundreds of students across two states over more than 35 years.

She believed dance was more than learning steps—it was a way to bring families together and to build strong, resilient, confident, and compassionate people. Her goal was never simply to create beautiful dancers, but to help shape extraordinary human beings.

While we miss her deeply, today we celebrate the incredible legacy she leaves behind in both her family and her dance family. We are forever grateful for the life she lived, the hearts she touched, and the dream she began that continues to inspire us every day. ❤️
