Whether you are setting up a home, a homestead or a small farm, or even starting a business, a small community project or even a new life for yourself, the skills and knowledge learned in a PDC will significantly increase your chances of success and save you much heartache (and money) from making unnecessary mistakes. What the PDC is, really, is a 72-hour crash course in how to design and build livable and productive environments while taking in consideration their affects on people and the larger environment. The goal is to develop systems to last generations in such areas as natural building, water harvesting, food production, property layout, small livestock systems, energy use and production and homebased small businesses with the additional goals of creating genuine health, beauty, and productivity. And to do all this while we live well and responsibly on this planet and with one another. Many students come away from this training wondering why this course is not a requirement during high school or college. They will say that they got as much out of this 72-hour training as they did from their 4 years of college. Bottom-line, we don't know what pieces an individual will come away with from this training (online or in person, does not matter) but we do know that it is rare for someone to leave one of our PDC courses and not feel that they got more than the time and money they put into it. We give every course our best effort. We have taught over 90 of these and have over 1700 graduates now. Care of the Planet. Care for the Future. We're serious about this if you are. Thought some of you would enjoy seeing this year's modest maple sap/water harvesting system. We collected 4.5 gallons from this one tree and will just drink it instead of turning it into syrup. It's incredibly refreshing and even nutritious. We also coppiced two of the larger hazel bushes for firewood and to keep the bush shooting up fresh wood for better and longer-term production. Bill

Becky and are taking a short winter break by visiting some friends down in Florida. It's always somewhat surreal to me, being able to step into a completely different climate. We stopped by a botanical garden and I was able to cozy up to this magnificent stand of bamboo. What an amazing plant. I think I'll do some deeper research to see how close we can get to this up in Northern Illinois. Cheers. Bill
