Have you taken the survey yet?
Join hundreds of other parents and families of students in our schools who have taken less than 10 minutes to complete the Byron Public Schools Community Survey. On November 4, voters will be asked to consider an operating levy for learning. We need your input on what you think is most important for our schools, such as:
• Purchasing books, supplies and other classroom resources
• Supporting art, music and performing arts programs
• Attracting and retaining high quality teachers
The school board is committed to a final levy for learning (operating referendum) proposal that reflects what the community can afford and its program priorities as much as possible.
The survey closes June 20. Survey results will be reported to the community in July. The board will decide on the final ballot question in July or August.

A big shoutout to Byron High School for inviting Emma Benoit from Louisiana & Jennifer & Ryan Hegge from Aiden’s Light in Kasson to come and share their experience of su***de with our students. Emma’s documentary is so important. She is sticking around after the presentation to talk with students. She is an amazing young woman & I’m so appreciative of the Hegge’s for getting her to a byron. THANK YOU!

I hope all of the high school kids will attend this important event. The School Board's #1 priority for the next 3 years is mental health. Emma is amazing and gives so much hope and light to the world. Please encourage your high schooler to attend!

Dear Byron High School Families,
We are fortunate to partner with Aidan's Light to provide a moving and important program for our students on Fri. Oct. 11. Aidan's Light is a non-profit organization that was formed after Aidan Hegge, a Kasson-Mantorville student, died by su***de on July 27, 2020.
We will be running a modified class schedule so all students can view My Ascension and take part in a panel discussion on mental health awareness hosted by Emma Benoit (the subject of the film), who will be here in person.
Emma, who, as a 16-year-old varsity cheerleader, found her life taking a profound turn after a su***de attempt left her paralyzed. Just a year after this life-changing event, Emma began working on her documentary film, My Ascension. The documentary chronicles Emma's recovery journey and advocacy work while addressing the youth su***de epidemic. Emma's message is one of hope and healing; a true inspiration. Following the viewing of the film, there will be a question and answer panel with Emma, Jen Hegge (Mother of Aidan Hegge), and Byron Public Schools Behavior Support Specialist Alana Milde, MS, MFT, CT-ABA. Our counseling staff will be available throughout the day to provide support for students.

It is our mission to promote open dialogue and awareness as crucial steps towards preventing su***de among our youth. We look forward to coming together as a community to address this critical issue and work towards a future where every young person has the support needed. To learn more about Emma and her film, My Ascension, visit www.MyAscension.us.
If you'd like to see the My Ascension trailer, go to https://www.myascension.us/ We would love for every student to be able to attend, yet we understand that some students may have trouble with this topic due to personal experiences. If you have questions or do not want your student to participate, please email the BHS attendance office at [email protected].
Sincerely,

Malia Schroeder, Kelly Braun, Shelly Bielen, Grant Elsbernd, and Andrew Petersilie

A series of miracles saved her life, but the self-inflicted gunshot wound resulted in a spinal cord injury that left her paralyzed. Although extremely tragic, the incident helped her find God and propelled her on a mission to use her painful experience and miraculous recovery to help others find hop

Tonight is Meet the Candidates Night for school board. 6:30-8:00 PM at the middle school. Come and ask questions and get to know the people you will be electing to represent you in our school community.
There is a lot of work to do and I'm still willing to do it. After having served on the school board for the last 2 years, I have come to realize the substantial amount of work that goes on behind the scenes. To the public, it may appear that nothing is happening, but rest assured, information is being gathered and checked, phone calls are being made, emails are being sent, and conversations ARE happening. Change doesn't happen overnight...And patience is not my strong suit! But persistence and determination are part of who I am.
Come and chat with me tonight if you are able! I'd love to meet you!

Byron School District’s SRO Will Stay in Place 😁

The city of Byron and the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office will split the cost of keeping a School Resource Officer in Byron schools on a temporary basis. In prior years, the city, the school district, and the sheriff’s office split the cost of the SRO three ways. Because of budget cuts, the school district had to stop paying its portion of the cost for the deputy.

🖋 This agreement will cause an increase of $18,400 to the city’s law enforcement contract for the remainder of 2024.

City council members unanimously approved this agreement at their meeting July 9. When the 2025 budget comes before the council, the cost for next year will be discussed at that time, explained City Administrator Al Roder. The city benefits greatly from having an SRO in town, commented both Administrator Roder and Mayor Daryl Glassmaker, because there’s another deputy in town if needed.

Administrator Roder also explained that after discussions with the school district, “We anticipate that the district will take back their portion of the position, upon successful passage of an operating levy or at the end of the end of this temporary agreement, whichever comes first.”

On Monday, June 3 from 5:00-5:25 PM, there will be a listening session at the high school before our regular school board meeting. I will be there with one other board member to listen and take notes. We will take these questions back to the board to discuss. Please come with questions in hand. I look forward to hearing your questions and concerns.
