First day of year 26. I'm listening to the radio on the way to school and the DJ says she's trying to convince her daughter NOT to play the trumpet. Imagine how sad that made me feel. Today in class we drafted a letter to her convincing her that she absolutely should let her daughter play the trumpet! I'll let you know if we hear from her. Let your kids be in band!! ❤️🖤🧡💙🧡🖤🎷🎺🪊🥁

Last night at our concert I cried on the stage. I didn't mean to, I had really hoped to keep my emotions at bay. But, when I asked the kids to make sure they were emotionally engaged and present for their performance, and I looked out and saw in their eyes that they were absorbing and appreciating every moment and playing it with beauty and power and holding on to the moment as long as possible, I could not hold back my tears. Band is so much more than notes and rhythms.
