Triton Class of 1978 Alumni, Byfield, MA

Prior to 1972, the towns of Salisbury, Rowley and Newbury had their own schools 1st-8th grades for several centuries. As the rural towns out grew their small schools, 7th & 8th grade students joined the high school students at Newburyport High School, or attended a private school like The Governor's Academy, also located in Byfield, MA. The three towns joined forces and built their own high scho

ol on farm land in a centrally located area. The first graduating class was 1972, however they had spent the 5 prior years at NHS. Every class after that up until 1978 had spent some of their time at NHS. The class of 1978 was the first to go from their town's elementary school, directly to Triton.
