The fable of the Lion and the Serpent is a classic Aesop’s fable about pride, underestimating the weak and the limits of raw power.
In the fable, a hungry lion encounters a snake basking quietly in the sun. Feeling arrogant and supreme, the lion casually taunts and insults the snake with his gignatic paw. Provoked by the lions needless aggression, the snake strikes back, injecting its venomous bite into the lion.
As the mighty beast moans, the snake warns him that “no strength or power can protect a despot from destruction.”…Fables of Aesop.
As with any fable there are many moral lessons to be found; in other words, life lessons. When I was young, my parents always taught me to look for life’s lessons even if the mistakes were of my own making.
Fables are a great way to inspire the Junior button collector in your house to do some research and learn the stories and in doing so, the life lessons found in our numerous and delightful fable buttons.
