I started my martial arts journey alongside my son, inspired by a strong woman instructor and a school that felt like family. Today, I’m proud to teach, lead, and help students build confidence, character, and discipline — both on and off the mat. I believe in creating lifelong martial artists and

future leaders who don’t just follow in my footsteps — they leap beyond them. My goal is to build communities grounded in respect, resilience, and purpose.

We are so excited to introduce our new Judo instructor!

Owen Yurko grew up doing karate and judo, earning his junior black belt under Grandmaster Shigeki Umemoto of Toushi Kan Martial Arts Academy in Great Falls. He graduated from Montana State University with a degree in Health and Human Performance and held his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification before moving to Dillon. Now a Ikkyu brown belt, training under Grandmaster Dave Allen of Martial Arts Academy of Billings and USA Judo National Champion John Amtmann, Professor at Montana Tech University in Butte, Owen is continuing his journey in Judo and is excited to share his knowledge with others.

For the past few years, Owen has assisted the Montana Tech University judo club and is a passionate believer in Judo’s benefits to self defense and injury prevention.

Owen Yurko is excited to bring the tenets of judo- respect, etiquette, loyalty, modesty, patience, and indomitable spirit to Beaverhead and Silverbow Counties.

SCHEDULE UPDATE: Closed next Wednesday and Thursday!

Hey Rocky Mountain Martial Arts family!

Please note that we will have no classes on Wednesday, July 22 and Thursday, July 23. Master Lightner is taking these two days off to finalize preparations for her wedding next Saturday! 🥋💍

Regular classes will resume Monday, July 27th.

When classes resume, please join us in giving a huge shout out and thank you to Miss Powers and Miss Pagliero! They will be covering classes and keeping the dojang running smoothly while Master Lightner is away on her honeymoon. We are incredibly grateful for their leadership and support! ❤️
