Butler School Community,
Earlier today our High School Office received a call that threatened a specific violent act to be directed at our HS campus at a specific time. Because this is an ongoing investigation, we are unable to release any further detail at this time.
Immediately upon receipt of this phone call, all buildings in our district were placed on a lockdown and local law enforcement was notified. We are thankful for their immediate response and for their presence throughout the full day.
At this point, it does not appear that the threat we received is credible. It is likely it is a โswattingโ call, where a school district is a targeted recipient of a prank call threatening a violent act. We will work diligently with law enforcement to seek justice from whoever placed this call, regardless of their location or motive.
Out of an abundance of caution, and with cooperation from our Law Enforcement partners, we remained in a heightened state of alert (soft lockdown) throughout the day. This allows us to continue with classes inside the building, but still limit access to the building and activities outside as much as practical. We will always err on the side of caution in instances like these, and we appreciate your patience.
It is unfortunate, scary, and frustrating that this incident transpired. I am thankful for the diligence of not only our local law enforcement, but also our school personnel who admirably handled the needs of our students. Also, thank you to the parents of our students who allowed us to shelter in place while we worked to determine that source and credibility of this threat. It is an incredibly difficult request of us in situations like this, but it certainly helps to take one more variable off the table as we endeavor to keep everyone safe and accounted for.
