Our Vikings wrapped up the regular season against the Macon County Bulldogs today. We finished the season 6-0. Playoffs begin next week at Viking Field.

Field Trip Friday---TCMS parent and student challenge: Find your local library and discover the resources available to you and your student. With locations in Butler and Reynolds, our local libraries not only check out books, but they have internet resources, and free passes to locations such as Zoo Atlanta. They also regularly plan events for our community. So, plan a trip to your local library with your student today. Knowing what resources are available and how to use them is a key part of literacy.

Thoughful Thursday---TCMS parent and student challenge: Share a story with someone in our community. Telling stories is a great way to increase literacy by placing events in order, using great details, dialogue, and body language descriptions. Not only that, but a good story builds tension, mystery, suspense. Help our students become better readers and writers by telling them stories, and listening to them tell stories.

Whoop! Whoop! Do whap! Sing with me Wednesday! Songs and raps are powerful tools for learning language and communicating ideas. AND, guess what! They can increase our student’s vocabulary and literacy skills! Students learn patterns of language, rhyme, rhythm, alliteration, and more. So crank up the jams and lean into the rhythm with your student today!

T-Talk Together Tuesday.
Parents, did you know that you can increase your student’s literacy just by talking to them more? Conversations expose your student's brain to language and forces him or her to process the language. They might not seem that they are paying attention, but research shows students listen and learn more from the adults to talk to them daily. They also need a chance to talk and use the new words they are learning. This sets them up to be strong readers and writers. Wow!--Who knew
