🌱 Congratulations, Carol Atkins! 🌱

The Sumter County School District is proud to congratulate South Sumter High School Agriculture Teacher and FFA Advisor Carol Atkins on her selection to participate in the Florida Agricultural Education Leadership Program for the 2026-27 school year!

This opportunity recognizes Mrs. Atkins’ dedication to agricultural education, student leadership, and expanding CTE opportunities for students across Sumter County.

Through the program, she will connect with agricultural educators and leaders from across Florida, gain valuable insights, and bring new ideas and opportunities back to her students and the South Sumter FFA.

We are proud of Mrs. Atkins and the impact she continues to make through hands-on learning, leadership development, FFA, and career experiences that help prepare students for their futures.

Congratulations, Mrs. Atkins! 🌾👏

🌱 Big things are growing at Wildwood Middle High School!

The agriscience classrooms at WMHS have undergone a major transformation, thanks to funding from the Florida Department of Education Workforce Development Capitalization (CAP) Grant. Over the past three years, Sumter County has received nearly $8 million to support the expansion of Career and Technical Education (CTE) workforce programs.

This summer, the Agriculture CAP Grant funded renovations to two agriscience classrooms and the accompanying learning lab in Building 9. The newly remodeled spaces have been upgraded to meet industry standards.

From floral design and animal care to irrigation and fertilizer management, these renovated spaces are helping students develop real-world, career-ready skills through hands on learning.

We are excited to see how these new facilities will grow opportunities for our students and prepare them for future careers!

🌟 DEVELOPING SUPERIOR TEAMS! 🌟

Great school districts don’t just develop great students—they develop great leaders and strong teams, too!

Last week, members of the Sumter County Schools leadership team completed the Developing Superior Teams Professional Development through the Florida Association of District School Superintendents at Eckerd College.

Pictured are Senior Director of Curriculum & Instruction Dana Williams, Director of Elementary Education Nicole Goble, Superintendent Logan Brown, Director of Secondary Education Jason Koon, and Assistant Superintendent Joel Camp.

This experience provided our team with an opportunity to learn, collaborate, reflect, and strengthen how we work together to support our schools, employees, and students.

Strong organizations are built by strong teams. By investing in the continued growth of our district leaders, we are strengthening our ability to communicate, collaborate, solve problems, and lead Sumter County Schools forward with a shared purpose.

We are proud of this team and their commitment to continuous growth and to serving the students, staff, families, and community of Sumter County!

🚌📍 WHERE’S THE BUS? Now Parents Can Know, Too!

For several years, Sumter County Schools has used Where’s the Bus behind the scenes to help us know where our school buses are throughout the day. Now, we’re excited to take parent engagement, safety, and communication one step further by putting that same information into the hands of our families!

With the Where’s the Bus app, parents can access real-time information about their child’s school bus and have a better idea of when it will arrive at their stop — taking some of the guesswork out of mornings and afternoons.

📱 HOW TO GET STARTED:

Download the Where’s the Bus™ app from the App Store (iOS/Apple) or Google Play Store (Android).
You will be prompted to create an account.
Select “Sumter County SD (FL)” from the dropdown menu and provide your student’s information.
Once your student’s information is verified, complete the account creation process.
Log in and access real-time bus information for your student(s).
For an overview of the application and how it works, visit:
https://help.wheresthebus.com/parent-app/wheresthebus-parent-app-overview/

⚠️ BUT WE NEED OUR STUDENTS’ HELP!

For this system to work as effectively as possible, students need to wear their ID badges and scan on and off the bus every single day. Parents, please help us and our bus drivers by reminding your students just how important that simple step is.

And one friendly request… 😄

Please don’t use Where’s the Bus like some people use UPS tracking. 📦👀

The bus location is being shared with families to improve safety, communication, and convenience — not so we can watch the little bus move across the screen and try to intercept it somewhere along the route to get our child off early. 😂 Please continue using your child’s assigned bus stop and normal transportation procedures.

We’re excited to bring this additional tool to our families as we continue looking for ways to improve safety, communication, and the overall experience for our students and parents.

🚌 Better communication. Greater peace of mind. Another step forward for Sumter County Schools.

🏆 A DISTRICT FIRST! | SSMS GOES GOLD! 🏆

We are incredibly proud to celebrate South Sumter Middle School for being recognized as a Gold Level Model PBIS School for the 2025–2026 school year—the first school in Sumter County Schools to ever achieve Gold Level status! ❤️🖤🤍

After earning Silver Level recognition last year, SSMS continued raising the bar and advanced to GOLD! This achievement reflects a schoolwide commitment to clear expectations, positive behaviors, data-driven decisions, and creating a supportive environment where students are ready to learn and succeed.

This recognition belongs to the entire SSMS family—Mrs. Shea and her administrative team, teachers, support staff, students, and families. Moving from Silver to Gold takes teamwork, dedication, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

🌾 AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION IS THRIVING IN SUMTER COUNTY SCHOOLS! 🚜

There’s nothing quite like seeing learning come to life outside the four walls of a classroom!

Check out senior Chase Bogart cutting hay and freshman Logan Brown — no relation to Superintendent Brown 😄 — tedding it as they put real-world agricultural skills into action.

What makes this even better is seeing students at different points in their high school journey learning, working, and carrying forward the proud agricultural tradition that has been such an important part of Sumter County for generations.

Through our continued commitment to Career and Technical Education (CTE), we are providing students with opportunities to develop practical skills, explore career pathways, earn industry credentials, and prepare for successful futures beyond graduation.

Whether it’s agriculture, skilled trades, healthcare, technology, or one of our many other CTE pathways, our goal is simple: every student should graduate with options and prepared for what comes next.

We’re proud of Chase, Logan, our Ag teachers, and all of the students who are keeping Sumter County’s agricultural heritage strong while preparing the next generation to lead it.

🌱 Growing skills. Growing leaders. Growing Sumter’s future.
