About 16 years ago, I got to see Dolly Parton on The Oprah Winfrey Show.
To request tickets for the show, you had to explain why you wanted to see Dolly. Of course I loved her music, but I wrote about how much I admired her business savvy and her generosity — especially her work with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
Apparently, it was a good answer, because I got the tickets. 😉
And what an episode it turned out to be! Dolly sang “I Will Always Love You,” Oprah got emotional, and then Kenny Rogers came out and joined her for “Islands in the Stream.” Definitely one of those I can’t believe I’m actually here moments.
So, in honor of Dolly, let’s play some mahjong and raise some money for her Imagination Library. 💗📚
And really, could there be a better date than 9/25? 😉
On Friday, September 25, we’re kicking off Mahj for Good with an afternoon of Guided + Open Play at Bottle Theory in Elmhurst, with all profits benefiting Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
Come play some mahj, have some fun, and do a little good while we’re at it!
🀄 September 25 | 12:30 pmBottle Theory | Elmhurst$30 | Limited seating

Well, look who showed up to PLAY! 🏆🏆🀄️

My longtime friends Denise and Becky each won a round at yesterday’s Mahjong tournament to benefit The Community House in Hinsdale.

I may have introduced them to mahjong, but clearly they took it from there. 😉❤️
So proud of these two and the rest of the and Mariposa Mahjong crew that went to their first tournament and did so well!

The Community House staff and volunteers did a wonderful job running the tournament and making everyone feel welcome. Thank you for a great day!

Still a few spots left for Wednesday morning’s Mahjong 102. Great for review and practice before your next league or event night. Review and refine with table side coaching!

You took a Beginner Mahjong class. You learned the rules. You played a few hands.

And now you’re thinking… okay, but how do I actually get BETTER at this? 🀄️

That’s where Mahjong 102 & Guided Play at Brewpoint comes in.

We’ll review the parts that still feel a little fuzzy — but we’ll also start talking strategy.

How do you narrow down your hand choices? What should you be thinking about during the Charleston? When should you change direction? What tiles should you keep — and which ones should you finally let go?

Then we’ll put it all into practice with guided play, where you can ask questions, talk through your decisions, and get help while you play.

You don’t need to be an experienced player. If you’ve taken a beginner class and know the basics, you’re ready.

You learned how to play. Now let’s help you learn how to PLAY.
