Khaleesi has been scratching her ear with her back leg the past couple weeks, this is such a win for our family! We have been working hard to complete 2 physical therapy sessions per day and cold laser therapy once per week. It can get exhausting trying to keep with all of it, but the results are amazing. Khali is a boss and she gives her all everyday.

It’s 8am and this dingo is ready to start her day! Do you ever noticed that your alarm clock gets replaced once you have a dog? No need for that sharp beeping when a paw to the face will suffice.

Exciting news!
Khali and I will be appearing on WCCO in May. Its an amazing opportunity to showcase her story and the dedication the Animal Humane Society has to all animals, no matter their medical needs. Be on the look out for updates and thank you for following her on her journey!

It was a good day to be a Khali. She started her cold laser therapy this week! This is a non invasive way of helping her stay pain free and also promote healing along her spine and hips. The appointment only took 30 minutes but Khali knew it was time for a nap afterward . Ivan Eduardo Johnson

Khali had a busy week. Ivan Eduardo Johnson and I have been helping Khali with her physical therapy 2x per day and she is already showing improvement. It’s amazing what squats can do for a dog, her hamstrings were atrophied making it nearly impossible for her to rely on her back legs for support. 6 days worth of squats has given her the ability to climb on the couch.
This little pup inspires me each day, she is so thrilled to be alive and part of a family. I couldn’t be more grateful that she trusts us.
Tomorrow she starts cold laser therapy, here’s to more success!

I want to say thank you to Amber a new friend, who also adopted a paralyzed pup named Fitzgerald. Amber has been a great support system for Khali and I, she has so much knowledge and patience. We are very lucky we found her! Last week she mailed us some accessories so Khali can run around outside without hurting her legs. Thank you so Amber and Fitzgerald! Khali met Dr. Amy at Twin Cities Animal Rehabilitation Clinic yesterday. After more than 2 hours of testing and physical therapy assessments we have a plan. It appears Khali may improve even further with the help of daily physical therapy exercises, cold laser therapy and massage. Khali may not know how to use her back legs yet, since she was a puppy when she sustained her injuries and was not active for the 8 months after. Hydrotherapy may not be an option for her since she cannot control her bowels, and well...no p**p in the pool. Dr. Amy was very optimistic about her recovery and believes we need to teach her how to bend her back legs and strengthen her ham strings. There was so much good news at our appointment and we are excited to start this journey!

This is a X-ray taken when Khali was found on the side of the highway in May 2017. The gaps between her bones shows that she was very young when she was injured, maybe around 2 or 3 months old. The injury appears to be in her pelvis, you can see how one side of it is more visible compared to the other. There was enough pressure put on her pelvis to completely move it from its normal position. The damage was too extensive to perform surgery, so the vet suggested letting it heal on its own. However due to the area of the injury the nerves that reached Khali’s legs were severed. She has limited control of her bladder and bowel movements, and she can only slightly feel her back legs. We have been working hard on strengthening her hind legs. 2 months ago Khali could not walk, but now through the love and care of her foster Amanda and our daily walks she is improving!
