Today we had to use our senses of touch with 5 Mystery Bags! Each child had a turn to reach a bag and with their senses of touch tell us if it was soft or hard. As they continued to feel the object they had to guess what familiar item was in the Mystery Bag!

When you look at this activity what do you think the child is learning besides matching his colors?

Let me share with you what is happening here:

Physical & Motor Development:
• Working on a vertical magnetic board helps preschool children build vital upper-body strength, hand control, and spatial awareness while making abstract concepts hands-on.

• Wrist and Hand Strength: Placing and pulling magnets requires a pincer grasp (using the thumb and index finger) and wrist extension, which builds the exact muscle control needed later for writing with a pencil.

• Core Strength and Posture: Standing or kneeling upright to play forces children to engage their back and abdominal muscles, promoting better balance and alignment.

• Crossing the Midline: Moving pieces from one side of the board to the other encourages children to cross the imaginary center line of their body, a key milestone for reading and writing.

Cognitive & learning benefits:
• Spatial Awareness: Upright surfaces improve hand-eye coordination and depth perception as children judge distances and place items accurately.

• Kinesthetic Engagement: Moving physical objects like magnetic letters, numbers, or shapes helps turn abstract ideas into concrete learning through touch and movement.

• Low-Stress Experimentation: Rearranging pieces or fixing mistakes is as simple as sliding or moving a magnet, which encourages trial-and-error without the frustration of erasing or tearing paper.

…..all of that with a simple color matching activity!

The last few weeks, one by one they packed up their years of childcare stuff and gave me a hug good bye. They walked out my door with beaming smiles- excited for their next adventure, KINDERGARTEN!

….and I couldn’t be more proud to say THANK YOU for letting me be apart of it all! ♥️

Thank You for keeping me on my toes- making me laugh out loud daily- watching you grow- learn- and seeing the world through all your eyes.

Don’t forget me- as you all have left an imprint on my heart. Love you all.
