It's ! 🎉🎉🎉

Today, we're spotlighting fourth-grader Sadie Janz, whose passion for learning has come alive through Advanced Learning classes at Sky Oaks Elementary School.

Advanced Learning Services, part of District 191 , serves students who have been identified as having higher academic or learning needs and are offered districtwide.

One way that Dr. Mandi Jensen, Advanced Learning Specialist at Sky Oaks, supports and empowers students is through the Genius Hour project, a student-directed project that involves a self-selected topic of interest, research and a demonstration of the student’s learning. It is inspired by Google's "20% time" policy for employees and allows students to take ownership of their learning by choosing their own research question and creating a final product to share with others.

September is Attendance Awareness Month, and we want families to know that in One91!👍🏼

Attendance is a leading indicator of student outcomes when it comes to academic, social and emotional success in school. Plus, it can ensure students and families get access to the support and resources they need.

Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school — and themselves! Start building this habit in preschool so they learn right away that going to school on time, every day is important. Eventually good attendance will be a skill that will help them succeed in high school and college.

We're excited to welcome back students to school on Tuesday! Families, please note that not all students will be learning in buildings on Tuesday. Depending on grade, some students will be engaging in online learning at home on the first day of school.

The schedule is as follows:

🏫 Grades 2-5, Grade 6, Grade 9 and Burnsville Alternative High School (all grades) will attend school in-person on 𝐓𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭. 𝟐.

🏫 Voluntary Pre-K at Diamondhead Education Center, Voluntary Pre-K at elementary schools and Half-Day Preschool for 3- and 4-year-olds at Diamondhead Education Center will begin in-person learning on 𝐓𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭. 𝟒 (no school Sept. 2-3 due to pre-scheduled assessments and family connection meetings - please contact your child’s school if you have any questions).

🏫 Kindergarten and Grade 1 will begin in-person learning on 𝐓𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭. 𝟒 (no school Sept. 2-3 due to pre-scheduled assessments and family connection meetings - please contact your child’s school if you have any questions).
