Just a few more weeks before our classroom is filled with students again!

We are so excited to reconnect with everyone, and can’t wait to get our Culture Trunks to our school!

We have a lot of learning waiting to be discovered, and already have some exciting plans in mind! 🌿

We are so grateful for the extra hands who helped us clean up our classroom! It was a huge help!!! 🫶🏽

“The bell system in the classroom was the persistent bane for Mrs. Bad Warrior and Ms. Madison.”

Context -
If you ever spent time in our classroom, on a Zoom with us, or even been on the phone with us during a school day, you already know this bell would drive us crazy!!

But thanks to Mrs. Bad Warrior and her advocacy — when we return this fall, we will no longer have to worry about the bells being so loud! 🤩

We miss you all so much and can’t wait to see you again!! We hope you all have been remembering to Sage, Hydrate, Heal this summer!!

Some exciting things we have planned with our Culture Trunks next year! Keep a look out for the amazing things our teachers will be doing in the classrooms to further Indigenous education for all students. We are forever grateful for the opportunity to share our culture with our students and community.

ICYMI: American Indian Education at District One91's Culture Trunk Project’ brings Indigenous artifacts, stories and perspective to every One91 classroom!

What do woven baskets, beaded jewelry, arrowheads, antlers and grains have in common? As part of District 191’s new culture trunks, they help bring Indigenous history, culture and traditions to life.

✨A Seed Keeper Summer!?? ✨

As we wrap up our final moments in our classrooms and buildings today, we want to remind our community that some of the best learning comes from connecting to land!

Our assignment for the summer? Discover your favorite flower, plant, tree, or pollinator this blooming season!!

While we will be away for the summer, we hope to stay connected by continuing to post the content we’ve collected throughout the school year! ✨Creating a Legacy✨

The One91 AIEP would like to extend our deepest gratitude to our students, families, staff, and community members who made it out to our Legacy Night! It was such a beautiful night and it couldn’t have been possible without all of you!!

From prayer, to preparation, and back to prayer, we are so excited to say that we have completed our Culture Trunk Project! This work is just now beginning though. We will continue to develop our curriculum and inventory books, and our website! Stay tuned!!

It truly is a blessing to be able to do this work. We want to thank our community for trusting us with their vision, and allowing us to lead this work.

We have much more to share about this project once we have completed our final reporting, but for now we just want to say:

Mitákuyepi, taŋyáŋ ečhánuŋpi. Thečhíȟiŋdapi ye. 💫

✨LEGACY NIGHT✨

Family, friends, and community members — you all are invited to join us tomorrow night for our celebration of our Culture Trunks!

Here is what to expect:
✨Interactive Learning exhibit! All 11 trunks will be on display to be experienced, and paired with KID FRIENDLY activities! We want you to bring your children / students! (A prototype of our Curriculum Guide and Inventory Books will be available. We will also give a sneak peak to our correlated website!)
✨Hear the story of this project from Staff, students, and our guest speaker — Briana Matrious!
✨Filming will be in progress, let us know if you are camera shy!
✨FREE Sage, Hydrate, Heal TShirt

Join us as we pray, honor, and celebrate with all of our items which will be sent out into our schools to support the learning and success of our students!

Our community partner and friends at the Shakopee Public Schools - Native American Education Program are currently hiring for a Dakota Language Instructor starting Fall of 2026. Visit their employment page and get in your applications.

Native Language programs play a vital role to our Native American youth, especially for those in the Minneapolis South Suburban areas. They have an amazing school system in Shakopee and we are so fortunate to get to partner with their Indian Education Program and bring our students together.

One91 Community, Partners, Families, Students, and Friends. Don't forget our Culture Trunk Legacy Night tomorrow at 6pm, Burnsville High School. All of our Culture Trunks will be on display for before we officially feed their spirits and send them on to their new homes at the Elementary and Middle Schools. We look forward to seeing everyone!

We will be feeding and blessing our culture trunks that will make their way to their new homes at our Elementary and Middle Schools.

Each trunk has been thoughtfully curated by our American Indian Education Staff and Parent Committee throughout the year. They have already made an impact with many of our students within the district in providing a hands on experience to Indigenous culture.
