The latest accountability results show Yancey County Schools are making continuous progress and achieving at every level.

✅100% of elementary schools met growth
✅100% of middle schools met growth
✅94.4% High School Cohort Graduation Rate
✅MHHS & STES moved up a letter grade to a B school
✅MHHS Biology scores are 3rd in the state
✅MHHS English 2 scores are tied for 3rd in the state
✅8th Grade Math is 3rd in the state
✅8th Grade Math is 1st in the Northwest and Western regions
✅MHHS Biology is 1st in the Northwest and Western regions
✅MHHS English 2 is 1st in the Northwest and Western regions

YCSO SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS ATTEND 2026 NCASRO TRAINING CONFERENCE

Yancey County School Resource Officers recently attended the 2026 North Carolina Association of School Resource Officers (NCASRO) Training Conference at Harrah’s Cherokee Hotel in Cherokee, North Carolina.
The annual conference provides School Resource Officers from across the state with valuable training, resources, and opportunities to strengthen the knowledge and skills needed to serve and protect students, staff, and schools.
Thanks to a generous donation from Standing T.A.L.L., Yancey County Sheriff's Office was able to send five School Resource Officers to this year’s conference.
“We are extremely grateful to Standing T.A.L.L. for their continued support of our Sheriff's Office,” said Sheriff Shane Hilliard. “Their generosity has provided our SROs with valuable training opportunities that enhance their ability to serve and support the students and schools of Yancey County.”
The Yancey County Sheriff’s Office extends its sincere appreciation to Standing T.A.L.L. for investing in our School Resource Officers and helping us maintain our commitment to providing a safe and supportive environment for Yancey County students.
