Celebrating Donna Schnitker, Recipient of the Lynne Angland Award
Lynne Angland, who was a passionate visionary, she believed that quality child care is vital to creating a dynamic workforce. The Commission on Children & Families established the Lynne Angland Award and the Early Learning Council has continued to honor the late child care center owner’s commitment to strengthening Oregon’s next generation. The award shines a light on those who contribute to improving child care and the positive outcomes for children.
Donna’s 30 plus years have touched the lives of so many children through her roles in Early Childhood. She served as the Director of Early Childhood programs for the Harney Education Service District, National Head Start Association, Early Learning Council member and significant contributions to the Frontier Early Learning Hub.
Donna was incredibly honored to accept this award. Donna has always tried to be an advocate in The Frontier Rural communities, because children out here do not have a lot and they can’t get to it either, so if she or anyone else can’t get it to them it wouldn’t happen. Anytime there was an opportunity in Eastern Oregon Donna took advantage of it. Donna worked with the Head Start Association to expand the Head Start, it started out very small and is now a gigantic program that serves families that if Head start or Preschool Promise didn’t exist there would not be access to preschool, which puts them in a disadvantage when they start school.
This has always been Donna’s focus, for children to have the best of everything that she could possibly give them.
