Thanks to his instructor, Ben Fern, for getting him ready for it. Takes a lot of work on the instructor's end to get a student to this point.

🎉 Welcome to the team, Thomas Shively! 🎉

Thomas is a Hill Country local who has spent his whole life in Central Texas. Before attending university at Texas State, he earned his Private Pilot Certificate in 2018 in Alaska and his Instrument Rating in 2019 in San Marcos. Upon completion of university, he continued earning certificates to include Commercial, Certified Flight Instructor (CFI), and Certified Flight Instructor - Instrument (CFII) in 2025.

Thomas believes in establishing strong professional relationships with students so that their learning requirements are met on the individual level. His focus is to ensure that student goals align with instructor goals in that safe, efficient and enjoyable flight training are made standard at Austin Aviation Training.

When not teaching future aviators Thomas spends his time raising his three children in his hometown.

Huge congratulations to Evan on passing his Private Pilot checkride! 🎉✈️

Watching a student go from their first lesson to fully certificated pilot never gets old, and Evan earned every bit of this. He put in the work, stayed sharp, and flew like he belonged up there. We could not be prouder.

A special thank you to our DPE, Reed Schotanus, for accommodating us so quickly and giving Evan a fantastic, fair, and professional checkride experience. It made all the difference.

Austin Aviation Training just added another new aircraft to the fleet! Our new 2026 Pipistrel Alpha Trainer (N335LF) is officially home at Burnet after flying her back from our great partners at Lanier Flight Center last week.

We put together a short video from the delivery flight from Gainesville to Burnet, via Huntsville, Memphis, and Texarkana. Check it out and let us know what you think. More seat time coming soon for our students!
