October is National Principals Month, and all throughout the month we will be getting to know our campus leaders a bit better. Up first is Casey Burkhart, principal of Burnet High School.
Q: What is one thing you hope every student who walks through your campus doors feels?
CB: That they belong here and that there are people in this building who believe in them. I want every student to know they matter, that we have high expectations for them, and that they are capable of more than they may realize.
Q: What was your favorite subject in school, and why?
CB: Math. I enjoyed the challenge of working through a problem and knowing there was a solution. I liked the process of figuring out how to get there, not just getting the right answer.
Q: What was your first job?
CB: My first job was washing dishes at Cooter’s restaurant in Noack, Texas. It definitely taught me early on the value of hard work and doing your part, no matter what the job is.
Q: What is one piece of advice from a teacher, mentor, or family member that has stuck with you?
CB: “Leave it better than you found it.” That idea has always stuck with me. Whether it is a school, a team, an organization, or a relationship, I believe we have a responsibility to make a positive difference while we are there.
Q: What is something you're really proud of that has nothing to do with your job?
CB: My wife. I’m incredibly proud of the person she is, the life we have built together, and the family we are raising. There are a lot of things I’m proud of, but being her husband and getting to share this life with her is at the top of the list.
Stay tuned for all of October as we shine a spotlight on all our amazing principals!
