One of the special parts of teaching in the floatplane is connecting with some outstanding aviators and their families. Andrew and I have spent the week together while he discovers the pure joy of flying floats. He is an Army pilot with a wonderful family who supports his decision to serve our country despite the many challenges. We were able to meet up with them during our training so they could see what Dad was up to. I hope he knows how blessed we are to have Andrew and his buddies doing the often thankless and occasionally dangerous work required. It is an honor to be a small part of their aviation journey.

I’m waiting on my American Airlines flight to depart after a maintenance delay. Trying to get to Charlotte then on to Norfolk to teach a Bonanza course for BPT. Probably not going to make my connection so likely to be a long evening. Wish me luck!
UPDATE: We have now used up our required fuel minimum for departure so waiting on the fuel truck.😡

UPDATE 2: Now returning to the gate to troubleshoot an issue with one of the electrical generators…..

Several weeks ago the San Antonio FSDO revoked Ken Wittekiend's DPE designation. They cited a lack of professionalism and integrity as the reason for doing so. This left many of us shocked, confused, and angered at the FSDO's decision and lack of transparency. We all know Ken as a role model who exemplifies the very qualities which he was charged with not having.

David rode in his first floatplane 10 years ago in Alaska and that inspired him to get his PPL and now he is flying his first float lesson. A goal 10 years in the making is getting closer to completion. We had a blast today! Thanks David for flying with us!
