| Day two went by in a flash! ✨ Across every campus, students were locked in, learning the ropes, settling into routines, and jumping right into the work. 📚

It’s incredible to witness the sheer scope of learning happening across our 38 schools. In one elementary classroom, a kindergartener is leaning in close, carefully cutting paper along a dotted line and mastering their crayon grip. Just down the road, a high schooler is standing at a whiteboard, marker in hand, working through complex algorithms. From the very first steps to the final stretch, our staff is making the magic happen every single day. 🪄

📷 Take a look at a few moments captured during today’s visits to Altamahaw-Ossipee Elementary, Western Middle, Western High, Elon Elementary, Highland Elementary, E.M. Holt Elementary, and Pleasant Grove Elementary!

| So much excitement across our buildings for Day 1 of the 2026-2027 school year! 😁 Nervous smiles quickly melted into high fives and hugs as students reconnected with favorite teachers and old friends.

📷 These photos are in order from our visit to Smith Elementary, Sylvan Elementary, B. Everett Jordan Elementary, Southern Alamance High School, Alamance Virtual School, Southern Alamance Middle School, South Graham Elementary, Ray Street Academy, Graham Middle, Graham High, and North Graham Elementary.

Superintendent Dr. Fleming, along with School Board Members Seneca Rogers, Avery Wagoner, and Dr. Eric Hall, had a great time visiting classrooms and talking to staff and students. We were also honored to have State Representative Dennis Riddell and County Commissioners Steve Carter and Pamela T. Thompson join us to see our students in action!

More school visits all week long! 🤩

Buses, roll out! 🚌 💨 Our drivers wrapped up their final team meeting before hopping behind the wheel and heading to their campus parking lots, getting everything lined up for the first day of school on Monday!

Behind every ride is a massive team effort. From the mechanics who spent the summer under the hood to the coordinators and directors who spent months analyzing routes, our Transportation team keeps this district moving forward. Come Monday morning, 144 school buses will be rolling out.

You can track your bus by downloading the Here Comes the Bus app or visiting herecomesthebus.com and enter district code 74462 when you sign up. There might be a few minor hiccups early on, but things will smooth out quickly as routes settle. We appreciate your patience! 🙏

Finally, there are still a few openings on some of our routes. If you want to make a real difference, consider driving a bus with us! Classes start in September: https://www.abss.k12.nc.us/page/bus-classes

Watch for our yellow buses (especially those stop arms and flashing lights) and be mindful of our students who may be crossing the road. See you bright and early Monday! 🌅

Throughout the summer, our School Nutrition department provided meals to families with daily and weekly pickup options available. In total, they distributed 67,926 breakfasts, 89,521 lunches, and 16,399 snacks! We're thankful for their hard work preparing these meals each morning, setting up in different sites, and responding to families as they came through. Now they're gearing up to serve students at school and would love for you to join them! This is a great job opportunity for parents who want the same schedule as their school-aged children. Can you spot two of our Assistant Principals in this cohort? 👀 Mr. Hemminger from Eastern Alamance High School and Mrs. Ellingworth from B. Everett Jordan Elementary School are participating in this nine-month leadership journey that connects them with local government and nonprofit leaders across the county. Big impacts come from these partnerships!

🚀 We’re excited to welcome our 11th cohort of the Leadership Institute!

Yesterday, these local government and nonprofit leaders kicked off their ten-month leadership journey. Throughout the program, they’ll have the opportunity to strengthen their leadership skills, build relationships with peers, learn about other organizations in the community, and enhance their mission impact.

We can't wait to see their growth over the coming months and look forward to the impact they’ll make in the organizations, teams, and communities they serve. Congratulations and welcome to Cohort 11!
