Science or Sorcery?
In Appala Raju Badireddy’s, PhD, environmental engineering lab, cutting-edge research meets real-world impact. As an Associate Professor in UVM College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences, Badireddy leads a dynamic team of students – from undergraduates to PhD candidates – working to develop innovative solutions for water and wastewater treatment.

What’s happening?
• Closed-loop water treatment: Transforming medical wastewater into medical-grade saline, helping improve access to this essential fluid in rural healthcare settings.
• Tackling “forever chemicals”: Developing innovative technologies to capture and destroy PFAS in wastewater, addressing one of today’s most urgent environmental challenges.
