What is the PSAT?
The Preliminary SAT (PSAT) is a standardized practice test designed to give high school students a realistic preview of the SAT. It measures the Reading, Writing, and Math skills you're learning in school.

Why should Sophomores & Juniors register?

National Merit Scholarships (Juniors): Taking the test as a junior is the only way to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program, which can unlock thousands of dollars in college scholarships.

Low-Stakes Practice: Get a feel for the test structure, timing, and question styles before taking the actual SAT—without sending scores to colleges.

Customized Study Tools: Link your scores to Khan Academy for a free, personalized study plan tailored to the exact areas you need to improve.

Great Baseline for Sophomores: Starting early gives 10th graders a risk-free snapshot of their strengths and room to grow before junior year.

Kathie Niven is a proud graduate of Cummings High School, Class of 1985. During her high school years, she was an active student leader involved in Cheerleading, the National Honor Society, the Art Club, the Greek Club, and served as a Junior Marshall. She was also named "Most Likely to Succeed."

After graduation, Kathie earned her bachelor’s degree in English with honors from Elon University in 1989, focusing her studies on history and the Greek language. She later expanded her leadership skills through Harvard’s executive education programs in Design Thinking and Cultural Intelligence.

Kathie began her career in the hospitality industry in 1990 with Arby's, under the guidance of her pivotal mentor, Nancy Allison. Over the years, she held numerous executive and marketing leadership roles across major brands, including Arby's, Burger King, Quiznos, and Krispy Kreme, before joining Biscuitville as Chief Executive Officer.

Beyond her corporate success, Kathie is deeply committed to community service and philanthropy. She founded "Friends of Irving Park" to support funding for local Title 1 school programs, served on the Elon Alumni Board, and works with organizations like the Greensboro Chamber to drive regional economic growth and keep collegiate talent in North Carolina.

Her guiding advice for the next generation includes:

“Always start with the end in mind. Determine exactly what the outcome should be and work your way back. Sometimes, we don’t take the time to get specific about what we want, which causes us to be more vulnerable to external forces that can throw us off track... The clearer we are about what we want, the greater the chance of success.”

From the energy in the stands to the incredible school spirit on display, our Cavaliers showed up and showed out! 🏈✨ Homecoming is about coming together, making memories, celebrating our school, and being proud to be a Cavalier.

Thank you to our students, staff, families, alumni, and fans for making Homecoming 2026 such a special night! 💙💛

Carlos Beltran is a proud member of the Cummings High School Class of 2019. After graduation, he took his talents to North Carolina Central University, where he competed as a Division I football kicker.

During his collegiate career, Carlos helped lead the Eagles to victory in 2022, capturing the HBCU National Championship at the Celebration Bowl.

Now, Carlos has come full circle by returning to his alma mater as a PE/Health teacher and Soccer Coach. He continues to give back to the district that shaped him, inspiring the next generation of students to chase their goals both on and off the field.
