🏀 Saturday Youth Basketball 🏀

The Community Education Department will run a recreational youth basketball program for boys and girls in grades 1-6. The program will focus on skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and basketball fundamentals. We aim to give your child the opportunity to learn and improve basketball skills while having a positive experience. It’s a great form of exercise during the cold winter months.

Divisions:
Grades 1&2 (coed)
Grades 3&4 (Girls)
Grades 3&4 (Boys)
Grades 5&6 (Girls)
Grades 5&6 (Boys)

Registered players will be assigned to a volunteer coach. Volunteer coaches will contact the players on their roster with practice and game information. All teams will practice and play games on Saturday afternoons.

Each team will practice for one hour on Saturday afternoons on December 12th, December 19th, and January 2nd. Teams will be notified of their practice time in early December.

A six-week game schedule will run from January 9th through February 13th. Games will be one hour on Saturday afternoons. Game times will vary each week: 12 PM, 1 PM, 2 PM, 3 PM, or 4 PM.

All grades will play at Karcher Middle School. A minimum of 12 children must be registered per age group in order to offer that age’s league.

Players and volunteer coaches will receive a team T-shirt that will serve as their jersey.

Your involvement as parents is critical to the program's continued success. Please consider volunteering as a coach; the kids need your support.

Registration Deadline: Sunday, November 22nd. A $25.00 late fee will be applied if registration and payment are received after the deadline.

🏀Girls Basketball Mini Camp - Grades 3-6

Having fun while playing basketball is the focus of this camp. The camp will consist of teaching and practicing the fundamental skills of basketball. Skills will be practiced individually and in small groups. Small games of 1-on-1 and 2-on-2 will also be utilized to practice the skills taught.

Shoutout to BASD teachers Kelly Dummer & Rachel Bennett for sharing their time & talents with the Burlington Community Education Department this summer. They offered two week-long classes called "Math-Game On" and "Math in Nature" for students in Grades 2-5.

They brought creativity and fun into the classroom to master math facts through and-on games, partner challenges, and daily make-and-take creations! We hope they'll return next year to offer more great classes!

Lego Intermediate Builders (Grades 1-5)

This intermediate class will focus on hands-on engineering, mechanical thinking, and teamwork. Participants will move from “exploring” to "intentionally" building. They will learn how things work, test their ideas, and improve designs - all while keeping it fun and creative. Perfect for kids who love to build and want to understand how real-world machines work. If a 1st or 2nd grader enrolls in Intermediate Builders, they may also join the Advanced.

This beginner class will focus on exploration, emotional awareness, cause and effect, and fine motor skills with LEGO® builds. This is all about confidence, curiosity, and play. Kids explore big ideas in a way that feels joyful and low-pressure - no right or wrong answers, just building and discovering. A gentle, playful introduction to STEAM that builds confidence and a love of learning.

🏃🏽‍➡️🏃‍♀️‍➡️Healthy Kids on the Run Race series hosted another epic race night, three weeks in a row, for grades K-8. Hosted by BASD cross-country coaches, Sally Nie and Matt Nie, kids developed their love of running and learned a healthy lifestyle. Cool T-shirts, medal ceremonies, and a variety of races focus on the joy of running. These are healthy kids on the run!!!

✂️Arts & Crafts {Grades 1-5}

Get ready to get creative! Children will explore a wide variety of hands-on art activities, including painting, drawing, decorating, and designing. Each day, we’ll create a fun and unique project using different materials and techniques. This camp is perfect for kids who love to imagine, create, and get a little messy while making something special. It’s a great opportunity for young artists to express themselves and take home some really cool crafts! All supplies included!
