“You guys touched on a lot of serious issues concerning mental health and the emotions that come with it.”

That message came from a SMART bus operator following our recent de-escalation training in suburban Detroit.

The best training doesn’t just teach people what to do.

It changes how they see the situation.

Our goal is to give frontline professionals practical skills they can use when conversations get difficult, emotions run high, and every interaction matters.

This student told us the course taught him things he wasn’t receptive to before.

That’s the impact we’re after.

Train. Educate. Equip.

3 classes. 3 days. A lot of great people.

SMART transit employees put de-escalation skills into practice in the classroom, on the bus, and working through real-world scenarios together.

Relatable skills. Practical training. Better prepared people.

Michigan was a great experience. We’ll see you in a few weeks.

Follow Vitality Sight for training that goes beyond the classroom.

One week. Nine classes. One hard-working team.

The Vitality Sight team is getting after it this week:

🚑 3 EMT Refresher Classes
🗣️ 3 De-escalation Classes
🧠 2 Mental Health First Aid Classes
👮 1 Trauma-Informed Policing Class

That’s 9 classes covering emergency medical care, de-escalation, mental health, and trauma-informed approaches to policing.

And behind every class is a team putting in the work.

From preparation and logistics to instruction and delivery, our instructors and staff are committed to making sure every participant walks away with knowledge and skills they can actually use.

We’re proud of this team.

Big week. Important work.
Let’s get to it.

Train. Educate. Equip.

🚨Better prepared. Better equipped. Better outcomes.

We just wrapped up our 2-Day Advanced De-escalation & Tactical Decision-Making course in Newark, NJ.

Nearly 30 law-enforcement professionals from across Essex County, along with an EMT from University Hospital EMS, came together for two days focused on the realities of high-risk encounters:

✅De-escalation & communication
✅Use-of-force decision-making
✅Resiliency under stress
✅Drugs & their impact on behavior
✅Psychological dynamics that contribute to conflict
✅Tactical decision-making in critical moments

And we didn’t just talk about it.

Classroom instruction. Role-play scenarios. Group activities. Real-world discussion.

The goal is simple: prepare professionals to think clearly, communicate effectively, and make better decisions when the stakes are high.

Thank you to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office for hosting and to everyone who showed up ready to learn, participate, and get better.

The NJ first responder community lost a good one this weekend. Jack Rindt, EMT instructor, veteran, mentor, and friend to so many died on Saturday, August 29.

Jack came to Vitality Sight in February 2021 and never once said no when we needed him. Refresher class, elective, didn't matter. His answer was always "what do you need, boss?" That was Jack: steady, dedicated, and committed to helping others learn and grow, right up until the end.

He will be deeply missed. Please hold a kind thought for his family.

Rest easy, Jack.

Vitality Sight putting in work!

Real training doesn’t stay in the classroom.

Our team just wrapped another round of Calm Commutes with SMART (Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation) in the Detroit metro area — and this session took things a step further. Transit professionals worked through scenario-based de-escalation training, then applied it in the real environment: on the bus, in the seat, in the moment.

That’s the whole point. De-escalation isn’t something you learn once and file away. It’s a skill you build through repetition, pressure, and practice, until it becomes instinct. Watching this group move from the classroom to hands-on application was a great reminder of why we do this work.

Huge thanks to SMART for the continued partnership and the trust to keep showing up for their teams, session after session.

This is what Train · Educate · Equip looks like when it’s working.
