Meet our newest tutor!
Bo is an urban composter, educator, and cyclist hauler in Burlington, VT. They earned a BS in Physics from SUNY Geneso, MS in Water Resources Engineering from Oregon State University, and an MS in Natural Resources from UVM. Bo had the opportunity to teach physics, calculus, and applied algebra to college students for 4 years as a lab instructor and tutor. Their passion is to demystify these concepts with respect to the natural world, and to find points of connection with students who are challenged by the conventions of the classroom.
Bo holds a profound appreciation for the environmental factors that impact young learners today. They welcome students navigating tension around timelines, attention, technology, anxiety, and embodiment. Bo tutors physics, calculus, pre calculus, algebra, geometry, and chemistry for students in high school and college, as well as other adult learners.
For the last 3 years, Bo has dedicated themself to developing a network of decentralized compost sites across Burlington, empowering residents to compost their food scraps collectively to build soil in their own neighborhoods. As the founder of Soil Cycle BTV, their most critical role is that of a community liaison. Bo would be delighted to mentor students engaged with service-based learning or alternative programming that requires skills like project management and community development.
Bo has a passion for global food systems and travel -- much of their academic research was conducted abroad. Since they landed in VT in 2017, they've been dedicated to deepening their roots locally. Outside of education and composting, Bo is often hiking with their dog, delving into ancient history and theology with their book club, or tending to sheep and goats nearby.
