Meet our newest tutor!

Katy has been a teacher of mathematics, physics, and art for most of her life. She loves to help people understand the deeper connections in material to facilitate comprehension but also the beauty of mathematics. Katy earned a Masters in Mathematics Education from the University of Washington in Seattle where she focused on the psychology of learning. Katy is a Vermonter and loves being outside and playing with her family.

Meet our newest tutor!

Originally from the greater NYC area, Jesse moved to VT after completing his bachelor's in mechanical engineering from Lafayette College in PA. He studied bioengineering and mechanical engineering as a graduate student at UVM before moving into the computer science field. Jesse worked as a software engineer for over ten years before deciding to transition his career towards education. Jesse has enjoyed teaching ever since he was in high school, and has served as a teaching assistant, tutor, lab proctor, substitute teacher, and mentor over the decades. When he's not tutoring, he currently works for an after school program where he helps students with homework as well as leading a Jr Iron Chef club and a Drawing Games club. Jesse is great at getting to know his students and connecting with their interests. He works with folks on a wide variety of subjects, but his specialties are helping students with math and teaching students tools to help with their executive functioning. Jesse has his own ADHD diagnosis and has recently spent almost 3 years learning and then coaching various executive functioning skills to use for academics and in everyday life.

Approximately 10-15 hours per week (1-3 hours per business day) mid-September thru the end of the year with paid training over the summer. The job includes email, phone, project management software updates, spreadsheets and billing. Must be friendly and detail oriented, sales experience a plus. Tutor Highlight: Meet Corinne Hill-James!

Corinne began tutoring as a peer writing tutor in UVM’s Undergraduate Writing Center where she discovered a passion for helping students gain confidence with their writing and beyond. She enjoys taking an individualized approach to learning that centers each student’s goals and strengths. Corinne has worked as an environmental educator in Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming where she helped kids build literacy, math, and science skills through hands-on learning outside. She is currently pursuing a masters’ degree in clinical social work and works in a therapeutic school supporting young people’s social and emotional growth. Corinne will be moving away to pursue her master's degree in early May, but is available for new students until then.

Meet our newest tutor!

Maggie is a PhD student at the University of Vermont (UVM) Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources. Maggie’s research focuses on using environmental DNA methods and statistics/modeling to predict the distribution and habitat preferences of several imperiled fish species throughout the Lake Champlain Basin. At UVM, Maggie also teaches Methods in Fisheries and Wildlife Biology and Statistics and Modeling in Conservation Biology. Prior to UVM, Maggie earned a Master of Science in Marine and Estuarine Sciences at San Francisco State University in 2025 and had a research fellowship with the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center Marine Invasions Lab. At a master’s student, Maggie taught in the Department of Biological Sciences. Maggie earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences at Smith College in 2023. Maggie also has experience teaching high school mathematics. Outside of academics, Maggie enjoys running, backpacking, reading/writing, and fishing.

Meet our newest tutor!

Nova is currently a clinical mental health counselor and former middle school math teacher. She has worked with students from early childcare through college in a variety of roles. Nova’s strengths as a tutor include helping students with their foundational algebra skills to help prepare them for higher level math and standardized testing. From her experience working with young children and elementary schoolers, Nova also holds a passion for making basic math skills fun and accessible for students who benefit from one on one guidance. Her approach to learning is grounded in a growth mindset philosophy, believing every student is capable of mastering a topic given a positive, supportive and structured learning environment. Outside of work, Nova plays viola in a community orchestra and plays a number of other instruments for fun. She also likes spending time outside with her horse, River, and going rock climbing.

Meet our newest tutor!

Glenn holds a bachelor’s degree in English and math, as well as a PhD in cultural anthropology from UC-Berkeley. He has worked as a classroom teacher, a private tutor, and enjoys many other creative projects. Glenn is a licensed English teacher from grades 7-12, but he has experience working with students of all ages. He tutors students in a wide range of subjects, including math, English, sciences, and social studies. He specializes in helping students improve their mathematical skills in a gentle, easy-to-understand manner, and brings a sense of fun and laughter to his sessions. Glenn also loves helping students develop their creative side. He offers enrichment tutoring for students and gears his tutoring towards the interests of the students by designing engaging problems, projects, or creative activities related to individual students’ passions. Outside of tutoring, Glenn has studied and performed improvisational theater, and currently performs at Vermont Comedy Club; he has worked as a whitewater rafting guide and as a naturalist/mentor in outdoor schools; he has a teenage son; and he is always looking for new ways to learn, himself!

Meet our newest tutor!

Eric is currently completing his Master of Arts in Teaching at UVM, and hopes to start his career as a high school math teacher beginning next school year. He attended Middlebury College where he completed his bachelor’s in mathematics, along with a minor in history. Originally from New Jersey, Eric hails from a family of teachers, including a mother who teaches English. He enjoys helping students build their understanding of abstract concepts and find strategies to succeed that work for them. Outside of academics, Eric plays guitar and bass and loves to ski.
