The Hearts in Action club, led by Harbani Goraya and Mayuka Guntupalli (both c/o ‘27) designed and constructed a mini food bank for families in the area which may be in need. The girls reached out to and met with representatives of the mayor’s office during the school year to discuss details of what would be needed. Their mini food bank was successfully installed last week along the river. The girls collected items to stock the bank towards the end of the school year, and will continue to do so this coming school year. While filling up the pantry for the first time, they were met with excitement by people walking by, who also offered to keep an eye on it and fill it when necessary. Some of the items include non perishables, crayons and coloring books, and feminine products. Great work, Hearts In Action club!

Today, another transformative change for Doane Academy has begun. A new fieldhouse will soon rise in place of the old Boudinot School (which closed in 2018 and was acquired by Doane in 2019). The new structure, which will be contiguous to the rest of our campus, will feature two basketball practice courts which can be converted into a larger competition court. Each configuration will have a considerable seating capacity. The building will also house a state of the art fitness center, locker rooms, and administrative offices. All will serve our student athletes within our exceptional athletics program. The new fieldhouse is scheduled to open during the 2027-2028 school year. Right Onward!

Our own Doane Academy mascot, Sparty, attended the Keystone Mascot Camp in Lancaster and Hershey, PA, from Thursday through Sunday. Sparty and all of the other mascots had the chance to march in a mascot parade at Hershey Park, and also to perform at a Lancaster Barnstormers Baseball Game. During the rest of their camp time they learned about a variety of skills which included personality development, professionalism in your program, signature moves, and skits. Boomer, the Keystone mascot, was also at the camp, and he seemed to be drawn to Sparty, for some unknown reason!

And look who also just happened to be there - Frank Vespe ‘10, and Aidan Bhuiyan ‘30! What were they doing there?!?! There seemed to be something very familiar about Frank and Aidan’s meeting. A bit of unexplainable deja vu?

Last week, Doane Academy hosted its very first Vacation Bible School! VBS is a fun summer program that brings Bible stories to life through music, crafts, games, and hands-on learning.

This year's theme followed the story of Daniel, as students learned what it means to trust God in moments of uncertainty, stand firm in their beliefs, and show courage in the face of challenges. Throughout the week, students created crafts, sang songs, and rehearsed a play that they proudly performed for their families on the final evening.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this wonderful week possible: Ms. Keyes for helping organize the program, Mrs. Anderson for leading arts and crafts, Ms. Wingfield for directing the play, and Mrs. Blow, Ms. Sieb, and Mrs. Buszko for generously volunteering their time and talents. We are so grateful for your dedication to our students and school community!

We can't wait for next year's Vacation Bible School!

Five Doane juniors were selected in April by the American Legion of Burlington Township to attend American Legion Auxiliary Jersey Girls State and Jersey Boys State for 2026. Rhyze Jones ‘27 and Cheryl Oluwaseun-Apo ‘27 recently attended Girls State, held at Centenary University. Gabiele Vertucio ‘27, Richmond Kumah ‘27, and Khristian Collins ‘27 attended Boys State, held at Rider University.

Boys State is sponsored by the American Legion, while Girls State is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. Boys State and Girls State is organized and administered for citizenship training purposes under the auspices of the American Legion. Each program educates youth in the duties, privileges, rights, and responsibilities of American citizenship. Students take part in training where they operate mock city, county and state governments after election to those offices. Activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, chorus, and recreational programs.

The American Legion Boys and Girls State programs are highly selective. Prospective candidates are selected based on academic achievement, leadership, patriotism, community involvement, and extracurricular activities. The Boys and Girls State events are considered New Jersey's preeminent youth leadership and civics program.

We are so proud of Rhyze, Cheryl, Gabe, Richmond, and Kristian’s achievement!
