The official page of the Champlain College Apiary, which uses Champlain's managed bee colony to educate the city of Burlington about sustainability.

In addition to establishing a friendly and fertile habitat for honey bees, the Champlain College Apiary is a living laboratory, providing a space for the in-depth exploration of a fascinating and often misunderstood organism, its complex social structure, and the crucial interdependence it shares with the landscape in which it lives. The apiary was established with support from Randolph and Cynthi

More thanks go out to The Vermont Community Foundation, for awarding the Apiary their "Small and Inspiring" grant, and to the Champlain College Green Revolving Fund, for their continued sponsorship.

These funds have most recently allowed for the installation of a large viewing window in the Apiary fence, and for the commission of an accompanying interpretive sign, allowing visitors to see what's happening in the hives without having to get suited up.

Come visit today, and make sure to pick up some Champlain College Apiary honey, now available at the bookstore!

A huge and heartfelt thank you to the New England Grassroots Environment Fund for a generous grant awarded to the Champlain College Apiary.

These funds will allow us to purchase a supply of children's protective beekeeping gear, and to provide community members of all ages with an up-close look into the fascinating lives of the honey bees.

"New England Grassroots Environment Fund awards help solve the problems and realize the promises in addressing climate change and energy action, local food, environmental health and justice, land and water and local economies.

Our Beginnings!

The Class of 2013's Gift of an apiary kicked into educational action today as the summer Bridge CORE 130 class suited up and checked out the three hives with Kristin Wolf and Rob Williams. The hives were looking healthy and the honey was sweet. An amazing new outdoor classroom experience right here on campus.
