Heartfelt Condolences

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Shyamsundar Chhetri (also known as Laxman Karki), who left us on April 20, 2026, in Pennsylvania.

Born in Samchi, Bhutan in 1970, he spent part of his life in the Khudunabari Bhutanese Refugee Camp before resettling in Burlington, Vermont in 2012. He later moved to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in 2022. His life journey reflects resilience, strength, and dedication to his family and community.

Final rituals are being conducted both in Vermont and Pennsylvania.

During this difficult time, we kindly request community members in Vermont to visit and support his family. His daughters — Urmila Chhetri, Parbati Chhetri, and Saraswoti Chhetri — are currently at:

उहाँको जन्म सन् १९७० मा भूटानको साम्चीमा भएको थियो। पुनर्स्थापनाअघि उहाँ खुँदुनाबारी भूटानी शरणार्थी शिविरमा बसोबास गर्नुहुन्थ्यो। सन् २०१२ मा उहाँ बर्लिङ्टन, भर्मन्टमा बसाइँ सर्नुभयो र सन् २०२२ मा ह्यारिसबर्ग, पेन्सिल्भेनियामा बसोबास गर्न थाल्नुभयो। उहाँको जीवन संघर्ष, धैर्यता र परिवार तथा समुदायप्रतिको समर्पणको उदाहरण थियो।

Cremation and Prayer Service Notice

We respectfully announce the cremation arrangements for the late Ran Bahadur Mangar.

A viewing and prayer service will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, beginning at 3:30 PM. Family, friends, and well-wishers are invited to gather for this time of remembrance and religious observance.

The cremation is scheduled to take place at 6:00 PM on the same day.

All services will be held at Minor Funeral Home, 237 US 7, Milton, VT 05468

Your presence and prayers during this time are deeply appreciated as we honor and remember the life of the departed.

Sad News

On behalf of Vermont Hindu Temple, we are deeply saddened to share the passing of our beloved community member, **Ran Bahadur Mangar**, who left us today, April 19, 2026, at 12:06 PM at UVMMC.

He was born in 1935 in Nimtola, Dagana, Bhutan. He later lived in the Bhutanese refugee camp in Beldangi-1, Sector A2-54, Jhapa, Nepal. In recent years, he resided at 8 Warner Avenue, Essex Junction, Vermont, with his relatives Purna Mangar (Bhatiz), Devi Mangar, and his wife Ratna Maya Mangar. His son is currently living in Jaigaon, India.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family during this difficult time. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

भर्मन्ट हिन्दू मन्दिरको तर्फबाट हामी गहिरो दुःखका साथ जानकारी गराउन चाहन्छौं कि हाम्रो समुदायका प्रिय सदस्य **रण बहादुर मगर** को आज अप्रिल १९, २०२६ दिउँसो १२:०६ बजे UVMMC मा निधन भएको छ।

उहाँको जन्म सन् १९३५ मा निमतोला, दागाना, भुटानमा भएको थियो। पछि उहाँ झापा, नेपालस्थित भुटानी शरणार्थी शिविर बेलडाँगी–१, सेक्टर A2-54 मा बसोबास गर्नुहुन्थ्यो। हाल उहाँ भर्मन्ट राज्यको एसेक्स जंक्शन ८ वार्नर एभेन्यूमा आफ्ना आफन्तहरू पूर्ण मगर (भतिज), देवी मगर र श्रीमती रत्नमाया मगरसँग बसोबास गर्दै आउनुभएको थियो। उहाँका छोरा हाल जैगाउँ, भारतमा बसोबास गर्नुहुन्छ।

यस दुःखद घडीमा शोकसन्तप्त परिवारजनप्रति हामी हार्दिक समवेदना व्यक्त गर्दछौं। दिवंगत आत्माको चिरशान्तिको कामना गर्दछौं।

Heartfelt condolences.

With a heavy heart, we are deeply sorry to share the news about the sudden passing of Pravesh Basel, 13-year-old child of Mr. Naresh Basel and Mrs. Purnima Basel and the older brother of Praneed Basel. Pravesh was receiving treatment for his health condition; unfortunately, he could not pull through and passed away on Tuesday, July 29th 2025.

Funeral fellowship has been scheduled for Saturday, August 2 at 10:30 AM at 901 North Avenue, Burlington, VT 05408. The Basel family will complete their son’s mourning rituals according to Christian traditions.

Our hearts go out to the parents, brother and their family during this difficult time. May Pravesh rest in eternal peace.
