Today, our school community recognizes Juneteenth. As a place of learning, we honor the rich history, culture, and resilience of the Black community. Today is a beautiful reminder of the power of education, community, and the shared values that bring us all closer together.
Wishing all of our students, families, and staff a happy and meaningful Freedom Day! πβ€οΈ

Our 4th grade students enjoyed an exciting visit to the Burlington County Historical Society, where they stepped into the role of archaeology detectives to uncover artifacts and piece together what life was like in Burlington City during the 1700s and 1800s. They also toured the historic Bard-How House, one of the oldest homes in Burlington City and a "please touch" museum that brought local history to life. Throughout the experience, students learned about the culture and history of Burlington City, explored how it connects to the history of New Jersey, and discovered the influential people and events that helped shape our community. It was a memorable experience! π

There has been an incredible extra burst of energy in the hallways lately, and itβs all because our Multilingual Learner (ML) students officially have World Cup fever! To channel that global pride and build community, we celebrated "Kit Day" at WWIS today! For many of our ML students, football is a deep cultural touchstone and a truly universal language. We wore our favorite team jerseys (kits!) and kept the excitement going with an intense round of World Cup Jeopardy Trivia and an epic World Cup Blooket game. Shoutout to our amazing students and staff for sharing their passion and bringing our school community closer together!

Second grade students from the Samuel Smith and Captain James Lawrence schools were given a warm welcome today at the Wilbur Watts Intermediate School. In order to make sure our students feel comfortable moving up to the Watts School, our district plans a morning of activities with third grade teachers and second grade students from both elementary schools. This morning allows our second graders to meet some of their new classmates and see their new school. We are so grateful to the third grade team at Watts for being so welcoming! Thank you for a great morning!
