TEACHERS STAY WHERE THEY FEEL VALUED.

I had a thoughtful conversation with Henry Loyed about teacher pay and retention in Alamance County. He made an important point: compensation matters, but so does something just as fundamental — feeling valued and respected.

When educators feel appreciated, supported, and fairly compensated, they are more likely to stay and build a stronger school system.

I couldn’t agree more. If we want to retain great teachers, we have to show them that they matter.

Dr. Samira Khan is an educator, advocate, and candidate for the Alamance-Burlington School System Board of Education. With more than 25 years of experience in education and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership, she has dedicated her career to helping students succeed and supporting the educators who make that success possible.

Dr. Khan is her own words about why she is running:
