"Adults should know that we can be good people."
Three freshmen. One year of exploration. Endless possibilities.
Meet Kanchan, Maryan, and Batulaβthree young women in the first year of King Street Center's Academic & Career Exploration (ACE) program. In this conversation, they share what they're learning about high school, their futures, and the opportunities helping them discover what's possible.
Their voices remind us why investing in young people matters.

What happens when the Vermont Green FC teams visit King Street Center? A whole lot of fun. β½π
Yesterday, players joined youth from across our programs for gym games, friendly competition, and plenty of smiles. Thanks for spending the afternoon with us!
Be sure to catch our Mentoring Program on the field at halftime tonight at the men's game as we share the impact of mentorship with the Vermont Green community. π

Stone Soup with Preschool π²β¨
Our preschoolers have been exploring cooking lately, which quickly inspired lots of soup-making in our outdoor mud kitchen. This week, we brought the classic story "Stone Soup" to life, filling the classroom with delicious aromas, teamwork, and plenty of excitement as everyone helped create something together. π
DISCLAIMER: We recognize the broth-to-ingredient ratio may have been slightly off. Our enthusiasm for chopping vegetables was extremely high. ππ₯π§
On Wednesdays, we dance πͺ©πΊπΌβ¨
Our 2nd and 3rd graders brought the vibes to this rainy afternoon with an epic dance party thanks to our friend and amazing volunteer π«Ά
A little midweek joy, movement, and laughter goes a long way π

Our people ππβ¨
From circle time in early ed to career exploration in high school, these are just some of the humans behind the magic at King Street Center. Youth development work is joyful, exhausting, meaningful, challenging, and transformational all at once, and this incredible team meets that work with compassion, humor, creativity, and heart.
To our teachers and afterschool professionals: thank you for creating spaces where youth feel safe, seen, supported, and inspired to grow. Our community is stronger because of you. π

Green Up Day with mentoring ππ
This weekend, our mentors and mentees showed up for the community, rolling up their sleeves to help clean up our shared spaces while deepening the connections that make this work so meaningful.
Along the way, there were moments of discovery, too. One mentor, Alan, introduced his mentee Issa (1st πΈ) to garlic mustard greens and foraging fiddleheads, and even spotted a rare purple trillium in bloom.
Itβs more than just giving back, Green Up Day gave us a chance to build relationships, learn from one another, and grow a sense of care for the world around us. πβ¨

Real life, real choices πΌπΈ
Our Academic & Career Exploration youth stepped into the shoes of their future selves at our Financial Reality Fair yesterday partnering up to navigate careers, families, budgets, and all the unexpected twists that come with adult life.
With guidance from our incredible partners at NorthCountry Federal Credit Union, Champlain Housing Trust, and Vermont State Treasurer Mike Pieciak, students made real-time decisions about housing, transportation, saving, and spending, learning quickly that the numbers donβt always add up without careful planning.
This hands-on experience is what ACE is all about: building confidence, strengthening decision-making skills, and preparing young people to navigate the real world with clarity and confidence.
