ELeung Wing Tsun

ELeung Wing Tsun Learn Modern Kung Fu! Its applications are often described as being simple, but not easy. Wing Tsun kung fu is self defense in it's most uncompromising form.

Wing Tsun kung fu is an efficient concept-based Chinese martial art and form of self-defense utilizing both striking and grappling while specializing in close-range combat. Wing Tsun was developed to allow people to defend themselves even against bigger and stronger opponents and that prides itself in its practical nature, with no references to mythical creatures or animal movements. Though seemin

gly soft, Wing Tsun attitude is aggressive in both defense and offense. Employing simple and clever self-defense methodology and concepts without complicated techniques, it's a fast, simple and effective system. Wing Tsun teaches the ability to overcome larger, stronger opposition with the least amount of effort using body integrity, balance and mind-over matter common-sense techniques. The principle focus of Wing Tsun is in defending against your attacker and in ending the confrontation as quickly as possible, while limiting the damage to any involved parties. The main objective of Wing Tsun is to be a realistic system of self-defense. Wing Tsun does not focus on fighting “techniques”, instead relying on fighting and energy principles to be followed at all times. The central idea is that, under pressure, it is impossible to visually recognize the precise direction and speed of an attack and make a conscious decision on an effective way in which to react, all within the very brief amount of time you have before your opponent’s attack lands. Rather, one must (counter) attack immediately in a very direct and protected manner and rely on reflexes to determine how to react if the opponent’s attack continues to pose a problem. In practicing Wing Tsun, the focus is less on drilling powerful and quick techniques as in many martial arts such as Karate and Tae Kwon Do, but so called “sensitivity drills” where the student learns a softness in the limbs which prevents the restriction in movement created by being permanently tense. The system also stresses minimal movements to achieve the necessary effect so all movement is as efficient as possible.

Building the foundation of Chi Sau: In these photos, you can see Tan Sau and Pak Sau paired with the low elbow punch during training. The students learn to apply these techniques correctly, using proper force, structure, and minimal necessary effort to maximize efficiency. By continually sticking to their partner’s arms, they maintain constant contact to read and react to pressure. These are just two of the many techniques available in Wing Tsun for close-range fighting skills that can be practiced during Chi Sau (Sticky Hands) training.

This past Sunday, a dedicated group of our students traveled to Concord for the 16th ITKFA Chinese Martial Arts Championship. Stepping onto the tournament floor to demonstrate skills in front of a broader audience is no easy task. Our three competitors in the Wing Chun Beginner Hand Forms division did an excellent job relying on their consistent training to stay focused and grounded.

We are very happy to share that their steady efforts earned them gold, silver, and bronze medals! Beyond the placements, the true highlight was simply being together as a team and a Kung Fu family, sharing the floor with other schools and connecting with fellow practitioners.

It was also a privilege for Sifu Matyas to serve as a judge alongside other respected instructors and Sifus, helping to support the broader traditional Chinese martial arts community and ensure a positive event for everyone involved.

Thank you to the itkfa.usa organizers for a well-run tournament, and special appreciation for putting on such an inspiring masters exhibition. Back to our regular class schedule this week!

Building the foundation of Wing Tsun: In these photos, you can see B**g Sau and Tan Sau in practice. These foundational techniques teach you to shift your centerline out of harm’s way and safely redirect their incoming mass and force. In realistic fighting scenarios these same angles can be dynamically applied with more expansive footwork along with instant counter attacks to adapt to the pressure. The fundamentals aren’t just for beginners—they are the core skills that every advanced application relies on.
