Simply a Day at the Beach | NAEYC 06/16/2021

Summer time presents excellent opportunities for "outschooling" our preschool children. Learning can take on new meaning for young ones as they explore different places, people, and environments during their summer travels. Headed to the beach? Help children's curiosity flourish by exploring local wildlife or working on team building, problem solving, and motor skills through building sand castles. Most importantly, value the non-structured time with young learners as they build on new interests and practice their growing social skills through inquisitive discussion. For more insight, check out our friends at NAEYC:

Simply a Day at the Beach | NAEYC Waterfronts are uniquely suited for learning because they present different kinds of materials that are of interest regardless of a child’s personality, temperament, age, or skills.

May 20th is World Bee Day! Bees are integral to some of our favorite foods, including apples, vegetables, and even chocolate! Bees pollinate 1/3 of the food we eat and a whopping 80% of flowering plants. However, the world bee population is declining due to habitat loss, climate change, and the use of pesticides. We can do our part by taking the following steps to create bee friendly gardens: 1. Dispose of pesticides and other harmful garden chemicals. This also helps to ensure safe gardening for your little ones!2. Add at least one native plant to your yard. Local garden centers are a wealth of information for selecting the best native plant for your yard. 3. Grow foods such as blueberries, tomatoes, or herbs. They grow easily and are low maintenance, making them perfect for a child’s garden!4. Set up a mason bee house in your yard- these gentle bees will gladly help to pollinate your yard after making themselves at home in their new abode.
For more information on how you can help the bee populations, check out www.pollinator.org!
