Gregory County 4-H celebrated its 2026 Achievement Days from Monday, August 3rd to Wednesday, August 5th, at the Burke Rodeo Grounds and Burke Civic Center.
The event kicked off on Monday with the Cloverbuds exhibiting their animals and skills. Next was the companion animal show, featuring guinea pigs and cats, followed by the rabbit show, and lastly, the poultry show. With more than 20 poultry entries, it was a remarkable display of various breeds. The evening wrapped up with interview and exhibit judging at the Burke Civic Center.
Tuesday, August 4, started with the beef show, which had more than 30 beef entries, including breeding, market and county-only classes. After lunch, the sheep and meat goat shows wrapped up the day’s animal exhibits. That evening, the Burke Community Club sponsored and served the community meal featuring pancakes and sausage, cooked by the Burke Fire Department. During the meal, the Street Bandits Car Club hosted a car, truck, and tractor show in the Civic Center parking lot.
Wednesday's events featured the swine, dairy cattle, and dairy goat shows, followed by livestock judging, sponsored by the Miner family in memory of Kris and Jerome Miner and in honor of Gordon Miner. Next, the 4-H'ers competed in Round Robin and Ag Olympics. The final event was another community meal, sponsored by the Burke Riding Club, followed by the premium sale. A big thank-you goes out to all the businesses and individuals who supported the youth by symbolically bidding on their animals. These young people dedicate a lot of time and effort to their projects, and this is a great way to honor their hard work.
Kim Petersen of the Burke Riding Club was instrumental in opening the concession stand during Achievement Days and providing tasty concessions throughout the event. We greatly appreciate her contribution.
