Thank you & for four days of focusing on the

Grateful for the energy, inspiration, and motivation gained from listening to Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, Maryland Governor Wes Moore, and the formerly disruptive (iykyk) Jay Shetty!!

Sessions on the standardized testing landscape, the new digital SAT suite, alternative admissions practices, and changes to the FAFSA were highlights!!

And part of the 58k steps I took led me to one of Edgar Allan Poe's homes and the birthplace of Babe Ruth! Dreamy!!!

The week ended with tropical storm Ophelia telling us she was on her way in glorious fashion!

kicked off the NACAC conference with some gorgeous singing and a message for parents: "Let your child go and do what their passion is." And class was in session when Dr. Leonard Moore closed the conference as he asked us to examine policy, decency, and opportunity as they relate to equity on college campuses.

The hours between filled my cup with treasured time with colleagues and meaningful learning on behalf of the students I support.

Ohio tour stop 2: Oberlin College. 3000 students at a residential (liberal arts college) with a music conservatory that puts on over 300 concerts per year. Double majors are more common than not. $5k for each student for internships; success coaches; 1st year seminars capped at 15 students; social justice and community minded.

The US News college rankings came out yesterday. Pay no attention. Instead, listen to Malcom Gladwell's Revisionist History podcast episodes, "Lord of the Rankings" and "Project Dillard" to get an understanding of why the US News rankings are bunk and what it means to serve students.

Washington State public universities will no longer require standardized tests in undergraduate admissions.

Washington's 4-year colleges announced that they will no longer require applicants to take the SAT or ACT. Whether the new "test optional" policy will result in more diverse applicant pools or admitted classes isn't clear.
