Pay Raises Approved for CRUHSD Teachers!

Friday evening, the CRUHSD Governing Board approved a $3,000 across-the-board base pay raise for all classroom teachers, guidance counselors, and instructional coaches. Prior to 2022, our valuable educators went many years without pay increases. Since 2023, our Board and District leadership have worked to approve multiple compensation increases. The average teacher in our district has earned an 18% increase over the past 3 years. This is the highest compensation rate increase for public educators in the history of Mohave County! These increases now bring our district in line with the state average for teacher salaries.

While school districts across the state, and even some right here in our community, are having to lay off educators and make budget cuts, CRUHSD is thriving. In 2021, our district's ending Maintenance and Operation Budget was in the negative by over $500,000, and the district was on the verge of going into State receivership. Today, our M&O budget is positive at over $2.5 million! Our Governing Board has accomplished all of this without having to raise taxes on the working-class families of our community. Our district has proven that conservative fiscal practices work!

Superintendent Remarks: "For too many years, the same small, powerful group of certain last names exerted disproportionate “small-town” influence and control over decisions, resources, and systems in our schools, often to their own personal benefit, but at the expense of the broader public and their children (particularly low-income and working-class families). As a result, our great public schools fell into disrepair, and our great teachers didn't get raises. This led to the rise of the Charter School Industrial Complex in our community.

Now, after 4 years of strong district and Governing Board leadership, we have low taxes, competent school leadership, engaging classrooms, safe schools, student success and opportunities like never before, long-term financial stability, and we are well into a new era of prosperity and achievement for the Colorado River Union High School District. This is what happens when you win in Academics, the Arts, and Athletics!

RVHS Cheer just brought home a STATE TITLE! Our athletes absolutely crushed it at the AIA State Championships and made River Valley proud.

🏆 STATE CHAMPIONS – All Girl Stunt

🥉 3rd Place – Game Day

🏅 5th Place – Partner Stunt

Game day also received a finalist banner and Original Band Chant performance!

Prior to 2022, the Mohave High School Baseball and Softball fields had fallen into disrepair. Dead grass, weeds, broken field lights, broken scoreboards, and unsafe dugouts had become the norm.

Now everything has been repaired and Principal Kathleen Giannamore is once again making sure that the fields will look great this spring. Go T-Birds!

It was great to enjoy a Football game at the River Valley Campus last month.

RVHS Principal Keith Moore has ordered the full restoration and repair of ALL of the sports fields at RVHS.

Thanks to Mr. Moore's vision & leadership, things are finally happening. Everything will be more than ready in time for Baseball and Softball! Go Dust Devils!

CRUHSD wishes everyone a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving break. School will resume December 1st.

Due to the hard work and dedication of our teachers, students, and staff, we have many recent accomplishments to be proud of and to be thankful for. Here are just a few:

Athletics – The Heart of a School

Both football teams made the playoffs; MHS is still going and has a real chance at a championship!

RVHS now has the best weight room in 3A.

MHS has the nicest outdoor beach volleyball court in the state.

Winter and spring seasons promise even more success.

Academics – The Mind of a School

Both high schools moved from a “C” in 2020 to a strong “B” today

We are on the verge of earning A+ School of Excellence recognition at both schools.

Benchmark systems now guide instruction with meaningful data.

CRUHSD Academy is no longer on state probation and reached its highest attendance rate ever.

Highest student success rate in Mohave County (over 90% of students passing all classes)

Arts – The Soul of a School

There is an opportunity for student artwork to be displayed at WARMC Hospital.

Music programs are growing at both campuses

Choir programs are thriving, with interest in adding theatre next year.

Overall Improvements

Technology infrastructure transformed—faster internet, Wi-Fi, new devices for teachers and students and digital processes once thought “impossible” are now a reality.

Teacher compensation has increased by 13% over three years.

Classified staff have received meaningful raises.

AP/Dual Enrollment teachers now earn $4,000 stipends.

Schools are safer than ever before.

New vehicle fleet and new buses

Multiple instructional supports & resources for teachers

Highest Teacher Retention rate in 3 years

Fields & facilities (long neglected) are being restored

The Colorado River Union High School District is honored to recognize the outstanding achievements of our student-athletes from this football season in their respective regions.

Mohave was well represented at the region meeting, with 16 football players earning recognition in the 4A Grand Canyon Region. The team was led by both the Offensive Player of the Year, Joe Yoney Jr., and the Defensive Player of the Year, Deegan Perry. Mohave’s All-Region First Team selections also included Cyrus Angulo-Brisco, Tony Moses, Pedro Marentes, and Nathaniel Villarreal.

The Second Team selections were Joe Yoney Jr., Noah Anaya, Jeremiah Huerta-Perez, Gavin Way Holmes, AJ Ruiz, Kadin Tejada, and Adrian Loya-Pulido. Mohave’s Honorable Mentions were Andrew Sevillano, Triston Urias, Maurice “Deuce” Linton, and Cesar Rodriguez.

River Valley was also strongly represented at its region meeting, with 18 football players earning recognition in the 3A West Region. The team was led by the Region Player of the Year, Deacon Maish, and the Co-Offensive Player of the Year, Aden Montgomery. Their First Team selections included Wyatt Maxwell, Brodee Abell, Nathan Bush, Riley Gonzalez, Tallan Alexis, and Landen Plotkin.

Their Second Team selections were Kanan Dowling, Shane Steinbeck, Riley Gonzalez, Ethan Robinson, Brodee Abell, and Mickey Smith. River Valley’s Honorable Mentions were Hunter Rice, Michael Gonzalez, Chase Jacobs, Landon Neufeld, and Hunter Koehler.

In a closely contested River Bowl this year, fans across Mohave County had the opportunity to see 34 All-Region players compete on the same field! This included two Offensive Players of the Year, a Defensive Player of the Year, and a Region Player of the Year. The strength of CRUHSD football across the district is as strong as it has ever been, and both programs have a tremendous number of young people to celebrate. While River Valley’s season unfortunately came to an end last week, Mohave’s season continues, with an exciting first-round game being played tomorrow!

It is truly an exciting time to be part of both programs and to be around the high-quality young people who give their best effort every time they take the field.

RVHS Head Football Coach Adam King Wins 3A West Region Coach of the Year!

Congratulations to Coach Adam King! Coach King’s leadership begins in the classroom, where he sets clear expectations, builds meaningful relationships with students, and models the integrity, accountability, and work ethic we strive to instill in all of our learners. His ability to connect with students both in and out of the classroom has created a culture of trust and respect that extends to the football field.

Coach King’s influence reaches far beyond wins and losses. He has built a program rooted in character, consistency, and community, earning the respect of players, parents, and staff alike. This is one of the key reasons the Dust Devils won the 3A West Region this season.

Superintendent Comments:
In my years working in the Phoenix Metro area, I was fortunate to work with Arizona football coaching legends like Paul Moro, Bill McKane, and Spencer Stowers. These champions all understood that football is a vehicle for teaching young men strong character through discipline and respect on and off the field.

The best coaches know that ejections, personal fouls, and unsportsmanlike conduct cannot define a quality program. Coach King understands this. His commitment to character is why he continues to succeed and why his program will set the standard for others in the district.
