In February, the 6th grade class at Charter School of Inquiry went on a ski adventure to Holiday Valley in Ellicottville, NY. This is our second year partnering with Charter School of Inquiry in Buffalo, NY.

Kids spent the day taking ski lessons and trying new skills on the slopes. What an adventure they had!

"We asked our students what they had to say about their day. They said, "It was amazing!" "It was the best!" "I faced my fears and had a great day." "It was the best field trip I ever went on!" Thank you for helping us." The ski instructors were impressed with our students. They said our students were "Polite and helpful and by the end of the day, everyone was skiing." Rick Moore, one of our ski instructors and a retired teacher, principal, and superintendent thanked us for sharing our students with them and offered to support our school in any way he can."

Thank you for supporting our mission to send kids on adventures and stay tuned for more updates!

Important Message from the CSI Board of Trustees

Dr. Antigone (Toni) P. Peek has been named as the new Head of School for Charter School of Inquiry (CSI), starting July 1, 2026, following the planned retirement of current Head of School, John Sheffield. Earlier this year, Mr. Sheffield announced his retirement after 42 years in education working with children in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade as a classroom teacher, school counselor, school administrator, and adjunct instructor at D’Youville College.

Following Mr. Sheffield’s announcement, the board of trustees unanimously endorsed Dr. Peek for the position. The board is confident in her ability to build on the unique features of the K-6 school, and to lead the instructional team as they continue to focus on instruction and academic achievement. Board of Trustees Chair, Valerie Nolan, said, “There is no greater responsibility for the trustees than selecting the head of school, which is why succession planning has been a critical component of CSI’s strategic plan. We are confident that Dr. Peek’s demonstrated leadership, talent, and vision will continue advancing the school. We are thrilled to have her accept the position.”

Dr. Peek currently serves as Associate Principal at CSI. She has more than thirty years of experience in education and educational administration, following a decade of service in the United States Air Force. She and her husband (a fellow veteran and retired school administrator) have two grown children and two grandchildren. Dr. Peek and Mr. Sheffield are working together during this transitional period to ensure a smooth leadership hand-off for the next academic year.

The board of trustees would also like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Sheffield for his eight years of leadership at CSI and wish him a long, happy and healthy retirement. Mr. Sheffield’s professionalism and leadership qualities, which have earned him the respect of his peers in the education world, will be missed at CSI.

Regarding Dr. Peek’s appointment, Mr. Sheffield said, “I could not be happier with the choice made by the board of trustees. Dr. Peek genuinely cares about the students of this school and will continue to cultivate a warm and welcoming environment where all children can meet with academic and social success.” Mr. Sheffield went on to say, “I will greatly miss the students, staff, and families of CSI. This school will always hold a very special place in my heart.”
