Rainbow K is a catholic elementary in the heart of Allentown in Buffalo, NY. Children are accepted from 3 years old (Pre K 1) through the 2nd grade.
The Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy came to the diocese of Buffalo in 1969 and staffed a day care from Catholic Charities for fifteen years. During which time they completed their education and specialized in Early Childhood. When the day Care Center closed, due to low enrollment, the Sisters acquired the building from the diocese and in 1984 opened a kindergarten at 388 Franklin Street. R
ainbow K operated at this address for 25 years. As enrollment grew, there was a need for expansion. At this point there was an amendment to the charter to receive pre-school students, and eventually a second amendment allowing students grade one to six. Through a generous donation, the Sisters were able to move the school to the present location -- 433 Franklin Street -- which took place Janary 5, 2009. Rainbow K is the best choice for working parents. The children receive a superior education. They are taught with the proper combination of love and discipline. The Missionary Sisters run a unique school which employs the Montessori and Piaget methods of teaching. The school provides a high quality curriculum at a minimum cost (compared to similar private schools). The school relies on tuition and fund raisers to operate. Rainbow K is designed to give the children a home environment while their parents are working. Our philosophy is to treat our children with loving kindness making no distinction of race or creed. In fact, two-thirds of the student body is non-Catholic. They learn to live in harmony and respect each other as children of God. Besides reading and writing, Rainbow K introduces the children to music, dance, language, technology, and educational field trips. The Sisters have seen the fruits of their labors in that Rainbow K graduates have excelled and surpassed their peers in later education. Graduates have become accomplished members of society. A number of graduates have gone on to become physicians, lawyers, teachers, engineers and a number of other professionals. The Sisters credit Divine Providence for their success.
